There's a big difference between opening up the stadium for Michael Owen, with a Sky reporter whipping the 20,000 strong crowd into a frenzy; and Villa inviting a few fans down to give the new manager a bit of a welcome.  Paul Lambert wants to be here for a start.

Now if that shouty bellend Jim White turned up I would have to go down there just to shit on his car.

They should do punch and pie.  More people will show up if there's punch and pie.

Forgive my cynicism but... aren't we in danger of looking a bit 'Geordie'? Encouraging lots of people to hang about outside an empty stadium ready to welcome the latest messiah for the tv cameras.

Isn`t this what sets Brummies aside from Geordies and Scousers ? Liverpool and Newcastle folk are very passionate about the game whereas Birmingham folk less so? - Having lived and worked in Brum for 30+ years and now Merseyside 17+ years  there is a discernible difference between the cities in their expression of fondness for the game and their clubs.
Its generally a topic introduced into many a conversation - when I lived in Brum it was less the case.
Kinda reminds me of when Brum was going for the Olympics and most people I spoke with couldn`t care less..
I am a Brummie and proud of it - but we just don`t get too excited do we ?

Scousers and Geordies are no more passionate about the game. They're just... noisier. In both a good and bad way.
They have nothing else to do up there.

Yes.

So Real Marid and Barcelona are also a bit 'Geordie' if they do the same?

Hi Maz, I have sneeking suspicion you have no love for Scousers and that is your perogotive - however based upon living on Merseyside for many years I have enjoyed the experience of sharing my love of the game with colleagues, friends, strangers, young, old, male and female... It is always a topic for conversation. The same goes for when I have worked in the North East, there is a desire and passion to talk about the game. I never get that feeling when in in Brum - I am not saying that Brummie football fans are less passionate I just don`t think Brum is a "hot bed of football".

Also when meeting Brummies on holiday, at work, or when travelling  I always ask if they are Villa or Blues?

The stock answers are usually " I support Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal etc" or "I don`t like football"

I guess I may be generalising and I have not met all 1.2 million Brummies to get a more scientific view - a bit like accusing all Scousers of being thieves and all Geordies obese !

One thing I will agree on is that Geordies and Scousers are noisy - I see that as being "loud and proud"

Perhaps us Brummies are more reserved   ;)
