Its a shame BFR is 73....

John Terry and Luiz Suarez would be his first signings. The daft old racist.

He wasn't a racist, he just understood dressing room humour, ask Andy Gray and Richard Keys they'll explain

I guess I better get my name changed back then "paul_e" please mod.

Really disappointed by this but he's the right type of manager so hopefully they'll find someone else similar, if the rumour is true that the advice came from Klinsmann I guess he'll have offered a few other names as well.

Malky Mackay at Cardiff has done a good job... League Cup Final and playoffs... Hughton by same measure

There's a name. Never thought of him. As good a call as someone like Grayson I think. Not done too bad with a club who have no money to spend. Obviously there are other names I'd like ahead of him, but it's not the worse shout (certainly not Southgate/McCarthy/Hoddle level).

Crossed my mind last time around, and I think I might even have suggested him on one of thre threads at the time. But somehow the 'fit' doesn't seem right now. Might be because he hasn't really kicked on from his first season at Derby.

I know all this is coming from a Brian Doogan quote to a Norwegian media source. Would the main AVFC site not have updated us at this stage to concur with what Doogan said last night. This is straw clutching I know.....

Why should the AVFC site update us on anything other than notification of a press conference (meaning an imminent appointment) or the appointment itself?
We have done 200 pages of speculation here and its been frustrating, funny, and fun in equal measure.

Randy Lerner and Villa officials will come in for flak for how this appears to be conducted and some will say it wouldnt have been like with Doug Ellis.
The fact that we can click away to try and pick up little snippets of real or imagined information shows how much things have changed since Dougs day. I mean we were virtually tracking by the minute the manager of a Norwegian league side getting on an internal flight and arriving for dinner just outside Oslo with his existing employer!

I am sure many past searches for a manager ( at all clubs) have had just as many up and downs. It was just that we would only hear about part of it through the TV and newspapers the next day. Then when it was sorted we were pretty much all left with our own thoughts at home or until we could talk about it with your mates in the pub.

Exactly well said mate. Villa have said he was a number of targets we are looking at. OGS said he'd take it if offered. Then he said he wanted to and withdrew from the running. Villa have said it wasnt offered to him. HE didnt REJECT us, we DIDNT reject him. No blame should be put on Lerner and Faulkner for this. Just been blown up by media and social network outlets. If anything they should be applauded for their vision and thinking on the new manager search.

I'd be nice if this process could have been done in private, but I suppose with the advent of social networks those days are gone.
