what madness is this?? dear god, at least check before coming out with this utter bobbins

I'm sure there was a distinct lack of Gnasher on these boards when we were doing well. Perhaps you came on every now and then to have a whine when we'd lost.

I don't remember you saying anything positive about Villa ever since you've been on here. Not one thing.

er no......i was on here all the time as my post count should hint at.

I did bring this up the other day, it does make me cringe sometimes the way people go on about a club of our size. You don't hear Everton go on despite the fact they've won a lot more than us recently??

When was that?

Since we won the league, 2 league titles, 1 Cup Winners Cup, 2 FA Cups and a league cup.

Hardly recently though was it (and could be wrong but I don't think they have won the League Cup)?

Their last trophy was 1995. So they've hardly won a lot recently. And they've never won the league cup.

She's the Villa fan, remember.  Think this could be about something else - Rokke has told him to hang out for more money for transfers?!  Well, I would - to screw the raiding billionaire!

My theory is that there is more riding on being a success at Villa then his career...

Coming now and failing wasn't worth the risk to his marriage.

As if appeasing Villa fans isn't difficult enough, double whammy when your wife is one too.

Simon Grayson could one day prove a good manager; I doubt anyone could succeed at Leeds with that head the ball Bates in charge. Now, though, is not the time for him to try here.

Agree Dave.  Got a lot of time for Simon Grayson.  By all accounts he was an excellent pro whe he was at Villa and he made a good start to his managerial career Blackpool before having a bit of a rough time at Leeds.  Hope he does well at Huddersfield, but he's not the man we need.

Got a feeling this is not over yet ..........

Andy Lockhead provided a link earlier to the Norwegian newspaper which I have just translated (if you can call it that when using an internet translator!).  What I can make from it is that the story is coming from the telephone call by Doogan.  OGS left Oslo and would not comment until he got back home.  When he landed back home the press were there to meet him and he said that he would make a statement tomorrow but the press report was that he looked bemused.  The report went on to say that no statements were coming out of Molde.

It seems that everything has come about from the telephone call from Doogan to VG the Norwegian newspaper and Matt Kendrick has picked up on this.  Other media have picked up on the Mail report and it has spread.

Seems strange.

Not holding out any hope but ...

To Villa 74, fair enough. You think it'd be acceptable to appoint a man who described us as a 'half arsed club that used to be famous' as manager. I disagree.

If you want to rake over the meaning of my 'club our standing' comment fair enough. We can agree to disagree with you there. But I cannot agree with you that somebody who could say that about any club could ever be considered suitable for the job of manager at the same club he had run down.

Regardless of our standing, even if we were a Wigan Athletic supporter, I would not want anybody who describes us in such terms to be ever considered a suitable managerial appointment.

Holloway has fallen out with Oysten at Blackpool hasn't he. Good football, a lot of young players...

If that's the case the offer might not have been made.

meh. Don't care. The main thing is OGS isn't coming which is good news IMO, and if people can't cope with someone not sharing their opinion fair enough. Probably a message board isn't the place for them.

http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/aston-villa-specials/next-permanent-manager

A list of the current 60-odd possibles, interesteds and not in a million years.  One or two others (Dean Saunders, that guy with the incredibly long name) mentioned today on the manager thread.

If unhappy with OGS, or if he's unhappy with us, then who?
Suggest going back to the next manager thread, to discuss possibilities.

Sod it.  Still think there might be a way out, but either way, there's a future!

It seems as though the meeting was to straighten things out between them after things going pear-shaped at the weekend so the newspaper report is saying.  It appears that Rokke may have felt he went too far and is trying to put out the fires of criticism he is receiving from everybody and trying to build bridges with the community there.  No doubt other things were discussed.
