As long as the list of names contains nothing but credible managers that meet the criteria of young, focussed, organised, passionate and ambitious with a desire to play smart attacking football then we cant really lose.
None of the likes of OGS, AVB, Rodgers, Lambert, Martinez etc faze me at all.

I find the prospect of Solskjaer more intriguing, compelling and exciting but that's not to say I won't fully get behind another guy with similar credentials.
I still think it's almost certainly going to be Solskjaer though.

I'm with Maz, yes I'd like Solskjaer however I'd still be happy with Lambert, Rogers or Martinez, not sure on AVB but that's only because I didn't think much when he was at chelsea. Although that was probably player power

how can it be anyone other than ogs at the moment on the basis that we have made no other formal approach to other clubs to seek permission to talk to their manager? As far as I am aware no call has gone in to Delia or Dave and I'm pretty sure the media would be all over it if it had.

Well thats where you are wrong .I know for certain Faulkner drove down to Norwich on Friday to speak to Delia face to face.

But his Sat Nav couldnt identify...Letsby Avenue!
Very good, John; got me smiling!

I've turned down several Premier League clubs this week - Solskjær

The Molde coach led his team this Sunday to a comfortable 2-0 win over Sandnes Ulf, but he has been in the media recently, mainly because of his visit to the Premier League club Aston Villa.

"I felt I owed myself to visit them. I have said no to several Premier League clubs this week. Finally, there comes a point where you want to talk to them, get acquainted and see what happens", a smiling Solskjær told NRK.

Solskjær says he was flattered by the Villa inquiry, but doesn't mention the other clubs by name.

NRK Sport

Start the guessing!  West Brom, Blackburn?

I think that "this week" is a mistranslation.

I read something from a Norwegian journo said he'd had offers in the past from Blackburn, Wolves and someone else I can't remember, but in the case of all of them, "it was never going to happen"

Actually, it is not a mistranslation. If it is an error it's from the original journo, though NRK use to be pretty trustworthy. What is more, he allegedly underlines that "in fact, there were clubs placed higher up the table than AV".

I must admit, I really want to bag him as fast as fcuk!

Thanks Gompedyret. Keep up the good work.
Your interpretations of what is and isnt lost in translation and the thinking that side of the North Sea is a big help.

I think the likes of West Brom are after him and perhaps clubs that Villa are speaking to regarding their current manager.

If its not OGS then I fear it may all seem like an anticlimax.

How I've got so excited about the appointment of someone I wouldn't have considered a week ago is beyond me....

Agreed. Getting someone other than Solskjær now would be like going from a rampant hard-on to thumbing in a semi. Still a result but somehow not quite as satisfying

No, we've seen what happens when a bell end has the use of one of the best youth systems in the country.

OGS has a proven record with youth because he's coached the United kids for years, has built a young team at Molde and has set up soccer schools in Norway and wherever.
Working with and developing youngsters is his MO.

It's more important to us that he can build teams from youngsters because that is what were focussing on.

Working with youth players in youth and reserve teams is completely different to exposing a team full of young players to the harsh realities of top flight football.  In the past two seasons we have seen periods of a couple of months where the younger players have featured and both have resulted in a dramatic slide down the table.

But it means he's likely to understand the development of players and how quickly they should be brought into the first team. Barring a really substantial amount of investment, youth players will form a significant amount of our team. I certainly don't want Dullins playing a huge role in the future of the football club, they're everything that's wrong with us at the moment. How many young players has Lambert brought through?

Not sure about Lambert's record with youngsters at Norwich, but found this article:

"Now we all know that Lambert has done some remarkable things at our club. The meteoric rise in league standing, the improvement of the squad and really finding ways to unlock players potential are all rightly credited to him. But there is one other thing I believe he has done which we will reap the benefits of for years to come.

Lambert has used the money gathered from promotion to build a squad of young, up and coming talent. Look at the purchases he has made this year. Anthony Pilkington, age 23. Elliott Bennett, aged 23. Daniel Ayala, aged 21. Jonny Howson, aged 23. James Vaughan, age 23. Bradley Johnson, aged 24. Ryan Bennett, aged 21.

Of all the new permanent signings, only one is over 25 – Steve Morison, aged 28.

Add this to the young players already at the club. Players like Andrew Surman, aged 25. John Ruddy, aged 25. Declan Rudd, aged 21. Jed Steer, aged 19. Korey Smith, aged 21 and let’s not forget Chris Martin, aged 23. And that’s forgetting the likes of Tom Adeyemi, Matt Ball, Josh Dawkin and others.

This is the legacy of Paul Lambert. If he left tomorrow, he’d leave behind a core unit of players that can potentially play together for 8/9 years. A settled side the likes of which we’ve not had since Mike Walker left the first time and Robert Chase dismantled the group of players that had done so well for us. A group of players that will grow in stature, ability, understanding of each other and belief in themselves as they gain experience.

For me, it’s almost Wenger-esque the way Lambert has approached Norwich City in the Premiership. Wenger builds a side around young players, gives them time to gel and get experience and they genuinely become better players for it."

While that sounds laudable for Lambert, I wonder why there aren't many /any foreign names in there.  It makes me wonder if he might share Mr O'Neill's preferences for British "qualities" over the more technique oriented approach of other nationalities.

OK.  I've slept on this as it's a big decision and can't be rushed into.  It's also something that can't be easily changed once the decision is made, so needs to be lived with for a few years and hopefully longer.

So, haveing weighed up the pros and cons I'd like to change my username to J-Ole M.  Could an obliging Mod do the necessary, please?

Not sure about Lambert's record with youngsters at Norwich,

It's not on par with Dave Jones's at Southampton.

Thanks for whoever did the username change!

If it isn't Ole, then I'd like Lambert myself - he's a VERY strong alternative, IMO.

MYSTERY MAN Just posted this on VT

Was at VP yesterday for Sunday lunch noticed Norwegian TV filming there not sure that means he is coming or not .

I think by Friday we should know who it is and it's out of 3 people the positive thing is I think the fans will give whoever time and a chance without the pressure of being top 6 .
Following ONeil was always going to be difficult 6th and less cash with a tired squad then season after arguably our 2 best players leave it was even worse ? Then we stay up by the skin of our pants god awful football same old wankers playing up so new bloke can come in clear the dead wood out build a platform . We only need to finish mid table and be a bit more positive and it will bed him for a challenge season after .
Whilst it's frustrating because we want somebody in now and I would ike OGS I think it's right that they take their time interview the candidates and make sure we do get the right person this time .
