If theres a chance of no compensation having to be paid out to get OGS then I'd imagine Randys legal advisors will be all over it as we speak.

I know we have some HR experts among us but the Molde directors seem to have shagged themselves thoroughly.

Come on Randy, we pretty much all want Ole and Villa Park will be rocking for the first home game if you hire him.

Speak for yourself- im in the lambert camp as most were a week ago- if ogs gets the job however i will fully back him . I believe both would do a decent job.

Hence 'pretty much'.

It's been interesting, the rate of conversion from the Lambert camp to the Solskjaer camp. I think the prospective football styles and reliability of youth development has swayed many.

I'd be happy with both Lambert or OGS, they'd represent a huge progress respect to Houllier and AML. . .

I was mostly in the Brendan Rodgers camp with how Swansea have played but very much open to Lambert because as Monty says, he's very good at seeing things mid-match and changing things which often got results. OGS could well represent the best of both though. He's clearly determined to play the right way but appears to have that tactical and analytical nous too. One comment that Ferguson made (and mates who support United have repeated) was that the reason why he scored so many goals coming off the bench was because he would identify weaknesses in the opponents that he would make the most of. Add to this his work with kids and it seems like as good a match as we could hope for.

There is no logical reason for OGS. Not on his record or where he's done it. Its just because we all know OGS. If he was a non-entity then no-one would want him.  Christian Gross keeps coming into my mind.

Sorry to drag up a post from pages ago, but this is all perfectly logical. We could logically go one of two ways. Since in the absence of mega-investment from Randy we're unlikely to get a superstar manager, we either go for a steady Eddie appointment, who'll get us up to our current natural level of upper mid-table/5th/6th (whether we like it or not, this is the best we've achieved in the last 15 years). OR we try to bag an up and coming superstar manager, who could grow the club in his own image. I'm hoping this is what we try to do as taking the first choice has not exactly gotten us very far. It could fail and if it does we'll have to remove him from his position and try again, but the board are at least trying to do exactly the right thing here, so they should be supported in my view...

As does Arsene Wenger

And Pep Guardiola.

Wenger and Guardiola's situations are very different.  If we want to take the Guardiola type option we should be giving KMac the job.  Guardiola, we should also note, was taking over a set-up that he was fully accustomed to with some of the finest footballers in the world playing for it.  As for Wenger, I think he'd been managing for twelve years prior to the Arsenal job!

Just in response to other posts: As for OGS being the next superstar manager, where is that idea coming from?  This is nothing but groundless hype as far as I can see.

The ex-Valencia manager worth a punt?.........Emery is it?

But i think i would be quite disappointed if OGS did'nt come now.

Would prefer Rodgers and Martinez ahead of Lambert, but would'nt be too disappointed with any of them tbh.

Assuming you mean Unai and not Dick, he signed a two year contract to coach Spartak Moscow last week.

Who has said he is going to be the next superstar manager? What a lot of people seem to be saying is that they are excited by the idea of having a young, talented manager who plays attractive football.

Seems a few people think lambert is to be interviewed for the villa job this week, any substance to this or is it just guesswork?

Initially I was very sceptical about OGS
Now, I'd be thoroughly gutted if we don't get him
Nice bloke, nice football, would have the respect of the players both young and old and would unite the fans
Lambert / Martinez / Rodgers, not for me thanks

I like Rogers, but I think it would take a fair amount of time for his passing ethos to take effect at the club, it's not something you can implement overnight.

OGS or Lambert for me, failing that, a promising young Manager from abroad.

We certainly shouldn't be restricted by Lerner's 'Must have Premiership experience' crap.
