with a massive majority of posters in favour of OGS, including me.
it would be worth keeping this thread on speed dial for when in 6 months time we are all moaning like twats again if it all goes wrong,
i remember the same things were being said about N'Zogbia before he signed, but now its ' why did Mcleish buy him he's rubbish' queitly forgetting we were all crying out for his signature at the time.

hindsight is a great thing, we ought to have the names of those for and against so we can name and shame depending on how it all turns out

We were right to be excited about N'Zogbia. This time, if he's still here, we may have a manager who will show why we were excited.

I'm not so sure N'Zogbia would fit in with Ole's style.  If he likes quick, short passing where his teams keep the ball moving, then would a player who likes to run with it so much, often ignoring his team mates, get much of a game?

I think he could be coached. I would be more worried about Gabby than Nzogbia, but time will tell. I think Bent, NZogbia, Bannan, Ireland, Gardner, Carruthers and Makoun will be the biggest winners. It will certainly be interesting to see an attack minded manager with some of the current squad, although whoever it is will still need to get 6 players in this summer I reckon.

There is no logical reason for OGS. Not on his record or where he's done it. Its just because we all know OGS. If he was a non-entity then no-one would want him.  Christian Gross keeps coming into my mind.

Gross had no experience of English football though. I would say it's a bit of a gamble but one i would be glad to see us make. I would certainly be happier than i was with the last 2 appointments. The only realistic one i would prefer is Lambert, but not by a great deal. I think he would be the safer bet, but not as exciting, thats what football is all about.

The logic is we pick someone who is believed to be one of the next top coaches in Europe and get them in now, rather than wait until they reach their potential and have offers from established CL clubss.

It's a risk, but it's not illogical.

Other than the Christian Gross part, that's very much my take on it.

The Manager coming in is only half the story, whoever it is will need sufficient funds to buy around 7 players.

It remains to be seen if Lerner will supply the necessary cash.

yep. no cash and we'll struggle whoever comes in

The thing is, you can say that 'without the United connection nobody would want him', but that's assuming that the United connection is irrelevant. The fact is that he didn't just play under Ferguson - unlike the other supposed proteges of Ol' Red Nose, he's actually coached under him. It's that old thing when Fergie endorses one of the former players who've gone on to be average managers: you say to him "alright, if he's so good, why didn't you hire him"? Because Fergie is a ruthless winner who doesn't let sentiment get in the way. He hired Solskjaer as a coach, mentored him, first mentioned him as a good potential manager when he was 27 and so on. Solskjaer is a good potential manager for us because of everything about him.

I'm not writing him off, but it's more a mentality thing where he'll need to be less selfish and more of a team player.

Agree Makoun could be a big winner if we do land Ole!

Maybe so but I'd be happier with a coach/manager who wants to see N'Zogbia do the bulk of his work in the final third and not the first two-thirds.

Gross was highly rated too. Just no-one had heard of him. If it was announced tomorrow that Lerner has flown to say Finland or Belguim to interview the managers of their league champions, would everyone say "Brilliant get him in"? Course not, however good his record was or how great his football is. Thats what worries me about OGS - we're choosing him on his playing career not his manageriul ability

It's a risk, everyone knows that, but his teams play the way he talks the game, that's a big difference to most of the managers available.  I'd trust him to come in and get us playing the way he wants, I also beleive that his style will be successful in english football.

Aside from that he's been given 2 chances at management and has won the league on both occasions, add to that the "doesn't know when he's beaten" attitude that he always showed as a player and you can see that he's a winner to the core.  For all the good things in our squad/club the one that's really missing is the winning mentality that exists at clubs like Man U.  If he can bring that and get our squad believing in themselves after the air of defeatism that's lingered around B6 for a year then he'll be off to a great start.

I've got a feeling Delfoneuso could end up being a big winner under OGS. He was the reserve manager the season we played Utd in the reserve final and Nath bagged a couple and loomed lively. Maybe OGS will remember this and bring out his potential. Agree with Makoun and N'zogbia.

Cobblers, Greg.
He knows the EPL, has coached a team in the English game for 30 months and has learned his trade in England. And - as someone above has said - unlike McL, Bruce, et al Rednose actually hired him to coach; he hasn't simply verbally endorsed him.
I absolutely agree, he's a risk; but he's not an unknown managerial non-entity.

I think Greg does have a good point. But I think his playing career, experience of the Premier League and working under Ferguson for 10 years will enable him to have a better chance of success over here.

Ive just had a brilliant idea. Why dont we tell OGS and Lambert to look elsewhere and sign....

David Moyes on a 10yr contract with 10mil to spend...and hed still make a huge success of it!
