My reading of the situation seems correct then, MM. Is there a chance the Villa board will see how popular the idea of OGS was to Villa fans and perhaps go with that a bit? Especially considering how unpopular the last appointment was.

Very good point there Monty. I'm sure that the club are not entirely unhappy about the fact the discussion with OGS is in the public domain as it allows them to gauge fan reaction. I'm sure that an element of the selection procedure this time around will include a feel for how the fans would react to the candidates. Last season they saw how damaging and expensive an unpopular (and inept) appointment can be. If only they would have taken this approach at the end of last season then we may have got some value from our season tickets last season.

A popular appointment would be allowed more time to get things right. Somebody like Martinez would be under pressure if we lost the first game.

Cue the abuse ! We have had informal talks and of course we are interested but we do not want to go down a blind alley and want to interview others with similar qualities but without speaking to them how do we know if they will fit and share the same visions  . My understanding is 2 others are in the frame and OSG Has not been ruled out and certainly not been offered the job to turn it down . There has been interest where 1 decent manager has thrown his hat in the ring but not sure if he is even an option !
Villa have no issue with the mis-reporting as its helping them do what they need to do without it being public and things are going under the radar  . Villa wish that the OGS story wasn't in the public because he isn't the only candidate available and will lead all Villa fans to think he is the preferred and only  choice . He is not the only option he never was !
We need to get this one right and I am sure they realise their shortcomings 12 months or so ago. For what it's worth I would be happy with OGS but the right approach is to cover all realisitc bases. I suspect, for whatever reasons, the Board have more suitable options this time and Villa fans expectations are more in line with what is achievable. I had faith last year and felt let down but I have more confidence they will get it right this time, let them do their job.

The BBC report very much suggest OGS is happy to honour his Molde contract which has 2 years left.
Do we know who the other 2 candidates are ?

I'm thinking Rodgers and Holloway, don't know why.  I also think that either will offer something different to what we've had previously.  Lambert is the safe choice, arguably boring though.

Definitely, the mainstream media have definitely jumped the gun.

Where can I bet on OGS? Willhill (only place I have an account) aren't taking bets.

God, I wish I was around an hour ago.

Upside is my son swam for the first time without armbands.
