From the Independent....

Former Aston Villa striker John Carew believes Solskjær is an ideal candidate to lead the midlands club out of the doldrums.

Carew, who spent four years with Villa, scoring 52 goals in 133 appearances, said: "This would be a fantastic job for Ole Gunnar to have.

"Villa are among the six, seven biggest clubs in England. They have fantastic fans and a fantastic stadium.

"Solskjær is a big name in England. On top of that, he has the mentality and respect from players he needs to suceed."

Speaking to Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet, Carew added: "Villa are also a club who, without doubt, love Norwegians and Scandinavians.

"I've received tweets from Villa fans today who want Solskjær as their new manager. I think Villa will work really well under his leadership.

"Everything suggests Solskjær can have a great managerial career in England."

Good old Carew.

Nice words from Big John, good lad.

AM's `abuse' began in minute 86 of the Bolton game. Until then he had been treated with patience and respect.

??? Get a grip.

This was the scene before he got the job!

Glad to see the back of him as well - but we can't hide from the truth simply because it's a touch negative.  GH - GMac - AML - all given lots and lots.

On a brighter note - If it is OGS - I hope he brings this young left footed centre half with him... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0O05lwY0LdU

Someone pointed out above that the crowd were very patient with McLeish, and that's true

Posting a pic of a bunch of placard waving idiots protesting before the season started isn't that convincing.

I get the feeling we're approaching a misuse of the "f" word soon, too.

This is a real gamble, I was really worried when it was mentioned, but I'm coming around to it, especially hearing reaction from others. It really is entering the unknown...

Obviously plenty of folk would be tempted Ger, but why go for a manager who who definitely would?  How can we seriously have stability and long term planning at Aston Villa with such a figure?

Our best manager (results wise) in recent years was O'Neill, he'd have been up the M6 quicker than you could say "Bottling wanker" if United had come calling.

1. John Gregory- 41.22%
2. Martin O Neill- 40.13%
3. Brian Little- 39.23%
4. Ron Atkinson- 38.78%
5. David O Leary- 32.46%
6. Gerard Houllier- 30.30%
7. Graham Taylor- 29.41%
8. Alex Mcleish- 20%

I am impressed with the write ups, and it looks like we are getting a bit of vision from the owner et al about our future.  Quietly optomistic.  A year ago I was quietly hopeful.  So, we are already on the up.

Liverpool have appointed Ken Dodd as manager so they don't have to change the initials on the tracksuit !

What I hope is that if Solsjkaer is appointed he starts to implement a passing football philosophy throughout the club. Then when he's successful and moves on, the next manager we bring in just continues that philosophy and so on. I think that's our only hope of competing in future, but it'll take a number of years.

It would be a gamble, that can't be denied.

My own take is that I'd much rather have someone bright, someone technically gifted (which you must be to pass the associated UEFA licenses, etc, these days) and at the start of their managerial career than someone who's been around for 20-odd years, and came into club management before requirements were as strict.

All managers start somewhere; our other option would be not to do something like this, wait, potentially, for OGS to go somewhere else, and then try for him several years down the line. Why not make the decision now? When Barcelona were looking for a new coach four years ago, they had Arsene Wenger on the shortlist, but eventually chose their reserve team manager, because they liked the working processes he implemented, and his coaching approach. Porto went with a coach barely in his 30s.

If it is OGS, he is very highly thought of within the wider coaching family. He's young, and hungry, and it could be a brilliant decision...

I'm not talking about some bunch of nob-ends from a Facebook group, I'm talking about the people who scan their season tickets at the turnstile every other saturday.

The paying customers gave him support above and beyond the call of duty. It's the moment McLeish lost them that he was finished.

But knock yourself out with your Nasty Villa myth, it's a free country.

Exactly the support lasted a lot longer than it should have against the performances. I think we as a group of supporters were very patient. That is with the exception of a minority of clowns who had it in for him from the start.

Yes, and if we allow ourself to focus on that minority of clowns, then we play into the hands of one-eyed twats like James Nursey and Oliver Holt.

Good, gives me another reason to slag O'Bottler off then. Not even as good as Gregory!

Your right where it concerns me at least, I wanted him gone after the Bolton game.

I don't recognise anyone in the picture, I never have in any of the 'riot' photos. I'm not saying I know every Villa fan in the world but you think I'd recognise at least one.

I find it vaguely amusing that Villa fans can be getting any flak for McLeish leaving, when I don't recall much criticism for Newcastle and Liverpool fans when they effectively got Allardyce and Hodgson the boot. Neither manager lasted much past half a season, and both were doing a reasonable job to that point. Now that's fan power getting the manager the sack.
