I can't remember the last time Owen was on the bench for United never mind in the first team. I'd rather us take a chance with someone like Jordan Rhodes.

Owen scored 17 in 52 games for manure, only 18 of which he started.

He scored 5 League goals in 3 years - his other goals were mainly FA Cup/League Cup against lower league.

A Has-Been. We need to move on.

If we want former European/league/ Cup winners who are excellent coaches and reserve team managers to lead our club then I'll throw my weight behind K Mac and Sid.  Just as much of a gamble, for sure, but if it worked I'd feel much more confident that they would be here for the long term good of our club.

And if they failed they would be sacked and we would more than likely lose the best youth coaching set-up in English football. Besides, Sid has never looked like wanting a managers job and K-Mac was pretty arse the first time round.

Obviously plenty of folk would be tempted Ger, but why go for a manager who who definitely would?  How can we seriously have stability and long term planning at Aston Villa with such a figure?

Our best manager (results wise) in recent years was O'Neill, he'd have been up the M6 quicker than you could say "Bottling wanker" if United had come calling.

The sad truth about Villa is that our treatment of our last three managers has been awful.

I disagree strongly.

AM's `abuse' began in minute 86 of the Bolton game. Until then he had been treated with patience and respect.

It was no more than he deserved.

The idea of Man U fans adopting us as their second club also appeals to me oddly, because it's actually a great opportunity to pick up our local glory hunters (maybe even in Aston) and turn them into Villa fans - so it's a marketable appointment .

Saying that we can't employ any manager who is a fan of a different club is as bad as demanding Premier League experience! It just limits you. There's no perfect solution, we just have to get the best we can for the now. Maybe the guy will be a huge success and fall in love with the place, settle in the Midlands and not want to leave! Who can see the future?

It's Steve Bull with Trevor Francis as DoF.

The things on that film that stand out for me are:

You then had Ferdinand (on that youtube clip) saying that he’d want to work under OGS if he went into management.  For somebody with an ego of Ferdinand’s size it suggests that OGS must have some pretty strong characteristics for him to want to work under him.

Good point - hope he doesn't take Ferdinand up on the offer too soon mind.

Agreed, he had a long and succesful career with Man United despite being a Liverpool supporter, don't think United supporters were too bothered whilst he was scoring goals for them.

Me! *winky thing*

You really think that united will appoint Ferguson's successor based solely on sentiment, and not on his ability to do the job? OGS will need to have proven beyond doubt that he has the ability to manage a club the size of united, which will mean he'll have had to have done extremely well here. If that happens, and he does indeed move on, then we'd be in a position to pick a manager of greater calibre than the other candidates currently in the running, so it's not like we'd be back to bargain basement appointments like McLeish.

In short, being against the appointment because he might leave to join united in 5 years is completely ridiculous in my opinion.

Very well put Ger

??? Get a grip.

This was the scene before he got the job!

Glad to see the back of him as well - but we can't hide from the truth simply because it's a touch negative.  GH - GMac - AML - all given lots and lots.

On a brighter note - If it is OGS - I hope he brings this young left footed centre half with him...
