Wouldnt worry about molde and the champions league- they have 2 qualifying rounds just to get to the group stage and unlikely to get that far.

Maybe it's the 40+ years of being a cynical Villa fan that makes me feels cautious about this prospect.

Who at Villa identified OGS? anyone know? Most people on here have been slating the club for not having any "football" men on the board. What has changed since the same board picked McShit last year?

I'm trying to convince myself that this would be a masterstroke but I always end up thinking that Wolves have got a better, more proven Norwegian manager than OGS.

I really hope I'm totally wrong

Valid point about continued lack of knowledge at VP Board level, and I still suspect they are using SAF as a consultatnt, despite his disastrous previous recommendation.  I'm not Sure about the Wolves boss  being more "proven" .  He was successful in a minor league,  gained some Champs League experience, but on moving to one of the big leagues, he got Koln to the verge of relegation before being relieved of his duties.  Sounds about as "proven" as McLeish.

Just in case you didn't know, Dave Whelan thinks Roberto Martinez is nailed on for a top, top job at some point. Dave Whelan can confirm that Liverpool have contacted him about Roberto Martinez. Dave Whelan can confirm that Villa contacted him last year about Martinez. Dave Whelan can confirm that he didn't think last year was the right time for Roberto Martinez. Dave Whelan believes Villa are a big club. Dave Whelan believes Liverpool are a big big club. Dave Whelan can confirm that Villa have not contacted him about Roberto Martinez so far this time around. Dave Whelan guarantees that if Villa do contact him as soon as the phone call ends he will call SKY Sports News (speed dial) and officially inform the world personally.

Dave Whelan is a prick

I said it once but I'll say it again. There virtually no such thing as a risk-free managerial appointment these days.

If it was Lambert, Rodgers or Martinez there would still be *some* doubt that it was the correct appointment.

But LESS risk with managers from the premiership surely?
I'm not sure thats the case. One thing OGS has in his favour is the people will think he's done it in Norway, but can he do it in England.

In short, he has something to prove.

Ok he wants the united job- if he does a great job here then he may get his wish, i would take 4 years of success under ole even it meant he moved on eventually , i believe we are in for some much needed fun and enjoyment under his reign.

It's not as if he doesn't know what the Premiership is all about is it?

From what I can gather the only possible stumbling block is his family being settled in Norway. I believe the job's his if he wants it.

Well let's hope he wants it.

we have plenty of lovely countryside just replace fjords with canals  :-[

Rollmops or a Balti?

I know which one I prefer.

plus no daylight in the winter must get you down  :-\

I'm not adverse to the idea. He would hopefully be able to identify some good Norse talent. Fans would have to be patient with him though.

The ultimate kiss of death though would be Fergie giving the move his backing.

At Birmingham Airport.. Randy's plane delayed slightly on landing after a bird strike to a previous aircraft. #AVFC

A silver vehicle flanked by blacked out vans will drive to meet the plane. Whether I get to see Ole Gunnar remains to be seen. #AVFC

The only problem I have is that we had enough posters on here unable to spell McLeish.  Ole Gunnar Solskjær could be an issue.

One thing is for sure, even if we don't land OGS our hatred of Wheelan has been upped a notch or two.

If he's not careful he could even surpass Gold.
