Wouldn't be my first choice, that's Lambert. However, i wanted a young, hungry manager for the last two appointments and would rather take a chance on a Solskjaer than go for an underwhelming yet safe Curbishley type. This is a great time to take the Villa job. After the last two years a mid table finish and maybe a decent cup run would be viewed as a decent season which would appease the fans.Solskjaer will have ambitions of managing Man Utd and to do that he's got to prove himself in the Premiership.Villa would be the ideal platform and lets face it if he took the Villa job and went onto United he'd have had to done a bloody good job with us.

I think its either a shame or indictment in his own ability or perception that Sid Cowans doesn't think he is ready for a crack at management and OGS is plying his trade and getter some success and seriously being considered for the villa job.....maybe he sees what's happened with The God that is was Dalgleish at Lpool and doesn't want to damage his reputation by failing ..... Love Gordon but if true isn't the attitude a winning club would have in their ranks as a 'potential' manager of the future.

We desparately need a winning mentality after such a dour couple of years and a period of being happy with 6th place finishes ...

.....

As for "he's spent a lot of time with Fergie so he must have learned something from him".. look up the history on the fella we just sacked! Theres also Bruce, Hughes, Ince, Keane all of which have pretty much proven they're not the next Fergie.

.....

Nutters and/or boozers all. I am not surprised they had little to offer. You can add Bryan Robson to the list. They've all had minor moments, but only Keane  came across as being particularly professional or thoughtful about the way the game should be played, and he should have been locked up rather than offered a job.

I have no idea whether Solksjaer will be a success or not, but I can buy into the idea that he will have an outlook and ideas the like of which we have been craving for years.

It's a positive move for me, the possibilities are there. At least we are buying a ticket - something we signally failed to do last year.

Not at all, Ozzjim. But this notion that it is OGS or bust is untrue... Or that a deal is done and a press conference is scheduled...

A cautious yes, I like the fact that it is a risk and offers something new. Better than a "Curbishley like" appointment.

Of course, his Newton Heath links will get right on my tits but as far as our young players are concerned it may work the opposite way.

They may be impressed when he walks into the dressing room, I wouldn't but then I'm an embittered old Villa fan who remembers Easter Saturday 1993 and still holds a grudge against everything to do with that "club". Those wounds run deep.

My punching the air and celebrating Aguero's goal like it was a cup final winner for the Villa indicates that i'm with you there mate

I can honestly say I have no idea if this is a good choice or not.

Even lambert's a bit of a gamble, after just one season in the prem.

I didn't realise he's 39.

I just had the image of a lad with choirboy looks telling Collins and Dunne to pull their fingers out. Only for them to give him a wedgey and tell him feck off. They have gotta respect him after what he's achieved in the game ( I hope).

Yes from me as well. I would have been happy with Lambert as well but this is quite a refreshing change in direction.

As an aside. This clearly must have been thought about for some time by the board. I wonder when and how many times they've had his team watched? When did their league season end? Maybe the board decided long ago that AM was going. Given his quick dismissal and this "out of the blue" appointment (if it happens), it seems to me that AM was a goner a while back (barring a miraculous turnaround).

Been burnt before haven't we. Are you aware of any other names in the frame? I actually like the idea of OGS, and think the club (Randy and PF) should be applauded for trying a different direction, and he certainly has the football philosophy that I would be looking for in the new manager compared to say a Lambert.

He should turn up with all his medals..."alright boys, medals on the tables....oh, I see...well best you listen to me then!!"

I often wondered why as a player, he seemed so happy being a "super sub". Rather than seek a move elsewhere.

Great finisher, let's hope he's a great manager.

Right, Ozz, we have. In part, this why I am posting, simply to say that these things take time. Agents are involved, multiple discussions with various managers, etc. and thus it would be wise not to become too married to any one name at this point... Although I, too, would be in favor of OGS for many of the rasons mentioned by others here...

Thanks for posting. Lets hope PF and Randy can convince him. I get the outward impression from the media that Lambert (who I still worry is too much like Martin), Rodgers, Martinez etc are starting to believe their own hype and think they are going to walk into the Chelsea, Liverpool and United jobs. I hope we can pull off something a bit different. Sending your own jet over to pick me up would impress me I have to say, although watching the documentary on youtube from MUTV about OGS makes me think why would anyone leave such a lovely place to live.

I also think it is really important that whoever we gets is allowed to move on 3-4 of the bad lads so to speak, and gets a decent amount to spend.

Yes, for some reason this appointment excites and I don't really know why. perhaps because were thinking outside the box a bit, something a bit different. agree with an earlier post how Lambert, Martinez and Rodgers might believe their own hype and are all clambering after the Liverpool job, let em have it. Im just a bit worried how much it would cost to have 'Baby Faced Assassin' printed on the back of my new shirt.
