Oh Bollox, here we go again. This is how this works:

We get a manager, he proves to be shite, we clamour to get rid, he goes, we then wax lyrical about all the exciting possibilities, one by one they f*ck us off and we're left with the shite.

I can see him kissing the red devil badge now as we go down to our customary demolition at Old Trafford.

It's all sooooooo predictable. Mug me off if you want but I know I'm right.

Yet another manager of our great club deeply in love with another. Woopee do.

The Man Utd connection is not ideal, but surely the fact that we're set to hire him within days of sacking McLeish suggests he is the board's first choice and not some scraping of the barrel.

I find it very hard to believe that they would go for Solskjaer as a random panic choice after failing to get Lambert & co. - random panic would be to go for a 'safe' choice like Curbishley after several weeks of faffing. This looks like the kind of move they must have been researching over past few weeks.

"This story has been taken down as it breached an embargo. It will be relaunched at 11pm 17 May."

What did it say ?

It basically said that it seems unlikely Solksjaer would want the job because his family is settled in Norway. Perhaps his missus has had a word....

Was it that one? I read that and said on here they think he will say no. Strange they embargoed that story though, it was a filler without a lot of thought.

Another possibly negative, but honest opinion here.  Why is everyone getting so excited about an unproven manager coming in?  At the very least surely we'd be better getting someone who's managed in the Prem for at least a season?

Don't forget there are some very strong characters in our dressing room - we thought (wrongly) that McLeish would sort them out, but they fucked him over.  I've seen or heard nothing about OGS to convince me he'd be able to address this.

Don't get me wrong I hope I'm proved wrong but I don't see him as the man to sort out what is a very sick club.

A yes from me.

Lambert is my first choice and still is, but something about going with OGS intrigues and excites me.
That's pretty much where I am as well.

Same here.

May as well stick it here as well.

Quote
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is on the shortlist for the managerial vacancy at Aston Villa. The former Manchester United striker, who is in charge of the Norwegian club Molde, has emerged as a surprise contender to replace Alex McLeish.

Solskjaer's odds tumbled on the betting markets on Thursday and although no talks are yet planned to take place between Randy Lerner, the Villa owner, and the 39-year-old, he is known to be one of the names under consideration, along with Wigan's Roberto Martínez, Norwich's Paul Lambert and the Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers.

There are, however, doubts in Norway as to whether Solskjaer would be receptive to an approach from Villa at this stage of his managerial career and at a time when he is enjoying seeing his three children grow up in his hometown of Kristiansund. Solskjaer has two years remaining on his contract with Molde, whom he led to the Norwegian title for the first time in their history last October in his first year as a manager, and there is a sense that he would prefer to see out the remainder of that deal before taking a job overseas.

There is also the prospect of leading Molde, where he made his name as an exciting young striker in Norway before moving to Old Trafford in 1996, into the Champions League this summer. Molde will come into the competition at the second qualifying round stage and it could be difficult for Solskjaer to turn his back on that opportunity.

For the moment, Villa are weighing up their options, which could include considering the merits of Kevin MacDonald, the first-team coach under McLeish and the caretaker manager when Martin O'Neill walked out on the eve of the 2010-11 season. MacDonald is understood to be interested in the post. "I think Kevin would be a good candidate," Gabriel Agbonlahor said. "He's very good with the younger players and has won the reserves' title I don't know how many times. Obviously, it's the chairman's decision. But I don't think the fans should discount him because he's not a big name."

The quicker we get over the fact that people will have heart wrenching ties to other clubs the better. I could not give a flying fuck if he will only get jiggy with his Mrs if she has a United shirt on, if he can do the job and likes to play a bit of football we should get behind him, because he might, just might, make our lives a little bit more fun by allowing us to enjoy watching the club that we love.

I'm not sure why entirely, but I have a great feeling about this.

Same here. I saw the news this morning and thought it was an odd choice but am really warming to the idea so a Yes from me. It is a gamble but maybe it's the time to stop being risk averse.

I'm also pleasantly surprised by the support behind OGS as a bit of unity is what we need now. Hard to think who else would get a less than 10% No vote aside from Pep or Mourinho.

Indeed, there's probably plenty of foreign ex Villa players who have a big soft spot for us. Won't stop them managing (or indeed playing) for other clubs.

I need a don't know option. I've got my reservations about it but i'm bloody intrigued at the same time.
I voted not but feel the same way as you. Perhaps it's the into the 'unknown' , could make or break us.

If he signs, I'll support him.  If he doesn't want to come as his kids are so settled, then sod it, go for Paul Lambert instead. A really bold choice by the board if it comes off.  Either really brave or really stupid.  At least they are showing some balls.  I just hope that that tosser Ferguson isn't in the background dishing out his thoughts and advice!

Nevermind sounds like he has numerous reasons to stay put at moldy. Shows over, lay him on betfair back to Allardyce, Mad Mick and the other journeymen hoof merchants.
