Do I detect a sly smile in this? - Roberto Martinez
« on: May 15, 2012, 09:31:31 AM »
Seen by those inside football as the man who laid the foundations and philosophy at Swansea - and yet again keeping minnows Wigan in the top flight with a run of wins in the last ten games that equals our entire season under Big F'eck - in those ten games taking the scalps of Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle, and Man Utd - Martinez here is interviewed by BBC sport - does anyone else see a knowing smile?

His answer is much more 'political' and much less than the outright denial I was expecting actually. That is interesting.

I agree. He does seem to have a "knowing smile" but that maybe the delirium of staying up again (or his link to Liverpool)

Reminds me of an interview with BFR just before being appointed.

Talks about his present club in the past tense, and does'nt refute, or to be fair encourage, the speculation,

From managing bottom 3 relegation fodder to top 4 & Champions League, do me a favour.

He would be a big improvement on AM.  But would prefer Lambert or Rodgers.

Liverpool won't be anywhere near the top four.  They remind me of us and seem to be going through a similar cycle of performance.  Unless they spend huge amounts next year they will be struggling to improve on this year's results - they might even struggle to tread water.  The question is have they actually got any money to spend? I'm not so sure.  Like us when O'Neill left, they are at a real crossroads and their next appointment will be crucial.

A turd on a stick would be an improvement on AM.
Martinez struggles all season then get a few results at the end. All this, he tries to play the right way rubbish - it's results that count, he's consistantly near the relegation zone. No thanks.

If you look at Wigan and the players available he has done superb, he didn't get 30million to spend in january like Houllier and he hasn't just stayed up because of three teams being totally useless like McLeish.

He is my number one choice.
