Have been very busy since attending the awards on Monday night but wanted to share a couple of my observations on here.

Mood of the guests was okay, not sombre but people were clearly waiting for some words from the manager

Unfortunately that didn't happen. Real Opportunity missed.

Even a "It's been a sh1te season but thank you for your support and I'm sure we can count on you to back the lads for the final two matches...."

But nope, it wasn't said.

No show from our captain Gabby, players aloof and aside from Collins, Dunne and Given they didn't break ranks to converse with anyone that I saw.

The lack of success meant that the Chelsea game on NYE and Fulham at home were pretty much the only hgihlights shown on the loop - that and Marc Albrighton's award winning goal against Arsenal at home.

Goal celebration of the year , I was expecting throw in of the year and best coin toss.

Though born and bred a Brummie I now live in London and have had my fair share of shite drives home down the M40 this year, but this was as bad as post Bolton.

Let's hope the drives home after the next two Sundays are more positive.

Our attacking midfielder with 1 goal and 0 assists gets player of the season, can't fucking wait for this mamoth fuck up of a season to end.
Hasn't he got 2 assists Bent( Chelsea) Weimann (Fulham) (I know it's still crap)
Bent at home against Everton aswell, i've done the lad a mis-service in my post.

My bro was at the awards last night and was far from impressed with what he saw.  Standby for a full and honest reflection on his thoughts...won't be a surprise to many on here, but disappointing none the less.

Hey Des, could you or your brother shed any more light on this? Apologies if you've written about it on another thread.

That's my bro - DL9 - you'll have read it by now.  Says something when our current captain and Acorns ambassador couldn't even be arsed to show his face.  And I understand Bent graced the event to conduct the raffle draw before making a swift exit.  The place is a joke.

Aside from Gabby did all the rest of the squad turn up?

I wouldn't be too concerned about having a chat with Gabby, you'd hardly miss hearing a few grunts and incoherent mumblings.

I still like him as a player, but he's thicker than a whale omelette.

Come to think of it, I wouldn't give a toss about meeting any of them.

Meeting legends like Brian Little or Paul McGrath is something to get excited about, I wouldn't cross the street to talk to any of our current lot.

Thanks for the update. So McLeish bottled a speech and has done nothing for 'team spirit'. The players should be encouraged to mix and no wonder fans feel disaffected from players these days. I've heard previously that Gabby has little time for AMC but that would not explain his lack of attendance.
Shambles.

The players pretty much huddled round together. You could get the odd word in but, apart from when I spoken to Weimann and maybe Delph, felt like you were intruding. That is why we don't normally go near them.
The one nice part of the evening was Stan's video message which was quite sad to watch and also when Des Bremner came round to draw for the signed football. Those stars of 82 are all a great bunch whenever you see them.

I'd guess that the 82 bunch were that bit closer to ordinary people, back then they were earning about 4 times the average wage, today's clowns earn about 80 times that.

Would I be opening myself up to all kind of ridicule if I suggested that if I'd been forced to vote for a Player of The Year it would have been between Richard Dunne and Shay Given?

For all of his critics, Dunne has been the only kind of 'character' and 'leader' on the pitch, yes he's had some tough times and poor games, but I think for every one of those, he's had a decent game (and when I say decent I don't mean an anonymous 6/10 performance).  As I say, I am aware there's a lot of Dunne knockers out there, but I think his performances this year stack up solidly against anyone.

Shay Given....yes I know he doesnt come off his line, no he hasn't been 'fantastic', but he's been pretty steady and not been at fault for many goals that I can remember.

Both I think have contributed more than Ireland or anyone else in claret and blue this season

I wonder if, before this season, our player of the year has only played  ten 90 minute games?

stephen ireland fans player, what a load of arse, lazy twat! loads of talent but only shows it when he wants to. Chris herd, richard dunne, james collins or stan petrov for me. gave most of what they had and as i fan that is what i would give!
robbie keane for goal of season against wolves but weimanns was pretty good and young player would have been herd easily.
