Salaries
« on: April 25, 2012, 10:51:07 AM »
On last nights radio show, Franksy said that Niall Quinn had recently said that Sunderland players have it written into their contracts that there is a 40% salary reduction in the event of relegation.

I wonder if Villa have anything similar in theirs or, if we do go down, will we have to continue paying top notch to Given, Dunne, etc when the income will be massively reduced?

After seeing how they've handled contracts (naivety and incompetence) I doubt very much if such clauses exist.

I very much doubt it, we sign a renouned crock on loand he gets injured after 20 minutes or so and we pay £1m compensation to his club. We pay a taxi to and from Bodymore from London every day for training and matches and he played 45 minutes. We havent got a financial clue.
There should be a lower wage with appearance and win bonuses hence you play you win you get paid more.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Villa are one of the only teams in the league that doesn't have any kind of relegation clause written into its contracts.

Well if we haven't then we're screwed.

I wouldn't put any level of incompetence past the Chuckle Brothers either.

I doubt it. Since I honestly think the last thing on anyone's mind at the start of the season was being relegated.

I can't imagine Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal etc players having relegation clauses in their contracts.

I don't mean to sound knowledgable after the event but it certainly flashed across my mind once AML had been confirmed.  That's all he's ever done in the PL isn't it.

Arsenal players do.

Or so I remember reading once upon a time.

With the money that is awash in the premiership nowadays i would be suprised if every single eventuality was not written into contracts to cover both parties.

By employing a Manager that had 3 relegations on his CV, 2 of which were in the last 3 years, you would think it would have been a very sensible option to do so

On current form i would not be suprised if this was not the case with our lot - just adds to the woe and fear linked with relegation  :'(
