If the question is - who would you like to manage us? Then the answer should be Mourinho or Guardiola. Those suggesting villa boas, Rodgers, moyes aren't setting their sights high enough in this fantasy world question. Realistically we couldn't attract Martinez last year and were debating mclaren or mccleish so to suggest managers above us in the table is fanciful at best and possibly delusional.

But Managers of smaller clubs will take a step down to a  potentially bigger club if the resources are there. a lots been said about Martinez's relationship with Whelan but clearly if he'd been offered the same terms Mcleish was, he was never going to take the job unless he was mad, and we'll have the same problem when/if Mcleish goes. No one employed currently in the premiership is going to tear a path to our door if he's asked to rebuild the side with free transfers or what money Randy decides to give him if we flog Bent

I would go for Clark or Poyet. My 3rd choice would be to give Zola another shot. Rogers and Lambert are going to cost huge amounts to get out of their contracts and although doing great, I would want to see them go through that vital second season.

Lambert first choice, AVB or Quique Flores second choice. Lee Clark, McDermott and Poyet are fantastic shouts.

I'd even plump for Grayson over the usual dross of Bruce, Curbs, McCarthy, etc.

Di Matteo will probably be free in the summer with a better record than both poyet or Zola. Plus we can have a protest in the summer again about employing someone who's managed one of our close neighbours

Did you see the Everton v Sunderland highlights?  I can't remember the last time we played exciting, free-flowing attacking football like that.  The fact that it was O'Neill on the end of a pasting was just an added bonus.

I'm pretty tired of reading that we couldn't attract a manager from a much smaller club simply because we're struggling this season. I think even football managers have more imagination than some of our supporters.

Randy will provide funds this summer, I just hope there is somebody worthy to spend it.
We will still be in this division, we will still be a big club and we will be able to attract the kind of managers we should be going for if the intent is there from the board. There is plenty to work with at Aston Villa for the right man/men.

Anyone who tries to play proper football based around passing, movement, and keeping possession.  Anyone who tries to win, and believes he can win,  every game regardless of the opposition.   Anyone who knows how to organise a defence for corners and set pieces, who's team doesn't shit itself and try (and fail) to shut up shop for 60-80 minutes if they manage an early goal.     

Young British coaches like Lambert and Rodgers seem to get found out and fade quickly, so I'd go for someone forinj.  But I've no idea who.  Maybe that Athletic Bilbao coach,I loved the way they played against Man Yoo,  spanked their arses and gave them a footballing lesson as well.  But I doubt he'd come to us and he's meant to be a bit mental as well.

When you say randy will provide funds maz , just how much do you expect to be made available and do you expect bent to be part of the money raised for transfers?

Id say we would need £25m plus just to compete in mid table.

i think we have promising kids and a lot of overpaid pros who are not delivering , we need a huge overhaul on the playing side akin to when graham taylor arrived in 87 and a clean sweep , new manager , new coaching staff and new team and if we can getr the right manager who knows - but randys past record on managers hardly leaves a lot of confidence in him choosing right next time around.

This squad is not as good as some people think and it needs a total revamp.

Di Matteo should, but probably won't, get the Chelsea job in the summer, so he'd be a strong option. Poyet too. I like what both coaches have done so far in their careers.

I just want someone who I feel can make his mark at VP, and build something sustainable over the next few years. What I still do not understand about McLeish's appointment is that, it was made in the knowledge that there would be certain limitations on squad investment, and yet McLeish has demonstrated nothing at all on his CV so far that indicates he would have been the right man in those circumstances. I've said it before that KMc would have far more comfortable in this situation.

As for those fans who are impatient and want the players to get it forward quickly - bear in mind where we are, the desperation for a win, the general gloom around the club. A fresh start, a fresh ethos and approach, and the understanding and patience will come.

I think amongst fans now it is simply a debate whether it is best he goes immediately or the day after we have played Norwich away.

The last poll on here showed  over 80% wanting him gone - I bet its a lot more now.


I am confident that if another poll was called, with our usual tremendous and vocal criticism of the scottish twat, it would be 110%.

I wouldnt mind seeing Lambert, Rodgers or Martinez but the problem is, they would have to buy their own players and we dont know how much money would be available to them to rebuild.

I wish we had Houllier as a technical director of football but again, we would of needed a manager who would employ that style of play which Mcleish clearly isn't
