Reading elsewhere he has died, never saw him play, listened to his reports often enough. A tough reporter, and knowledgeable, may he rest in peace.

Gosh, now there's a memory, didn't he always used to do reporting from the Villa when R5 used to be R2?

Wow, long time since I'd heard that name.  Remember him really well as what seemed to be the Midlands Sport reporter for BBC Radio as Richard said on radio 2.  Did Pat Murphy take over from him?

I remember him as a man with a really lovely voice who used to sometimes do post match reports on Grandstand from Villa Park in the 70s. Only later did I learn he had played for us.

RIP Larry sir.

He actually played for us

41 games, in a career disrupted by the war. He also once wrote on being accused of an anti-Villa bias on radio "I'm harder on Villa players because I believe they have to prove themselves worthy of wearing claret and blue."

So what's Pat fucking Murphy's excuse?

That explains it. He always did seem overly critical of Villa performances.

Before my time as a player, amazing that he only made 41 appearances. He was regarded as something of a Villa stalwart.

I'm sure I used to hear him on the Light Programme before it even became Radio 2, but that may be my memory.

RIP

Always enjoyed listening to his match report in the car on the way home from the game.

Also I remember my Dad telling me that he had seen him play for the Villa.

A great statement and goes a long way to summing up how many of us feel.
