Sad news. I noticed the 'Applause for Petrov' thread first and didn't have any idea. Even the acuteness of posts on that thread didn't prepare me for anything like this.

When I heard the news on the radio earlier today, I was stunned. I can only add my own thoughts and prayers to those already aired and wish Stan a speedy and full recovery and hope that his family have the strength and support to help them through this very tough time.

He's always been cut from a different cloth to some of the other pampered footballing brats. You can't imagine many others working in a burger van to improve their English. Now he speaks it better than most of his British team mates while the likes of Tevez can't string a sentence together after years in the country. A great example of a modestly-talented player who has given his all to establish a career and make the best of what he has. Top bloke; I am proud to have him at our club.
