Well apparently it's going ahead at Stan's insistence, so I feel we should now view it as an opportunity for the fans to get out there and voice their support.

Too right – if I see anyone protesting about anything as trivial as the manager or his style of play, or whether Heskey's playing, or whether their pie's cold I will punch them.

Reading so many tweets from villa fans and current and ex players and cant help but get a lump in the throat.  Really hope he gets better

Terrific servant to the club. True professional and comes across as a gentlemen. Very very sad hearing this news. I'm sure he will come through it. Thoughts are with him.

I remember when we got the team news for Bent's debut. DB up front (obviously) and Gabby, Young, Albrighton and Downing all playing.'Who the fuck is playing midfield' I thought? Answer - Stan, more or less on his own against Yaya Toure, Custard Pants and DeJong. I thought we'd get mullered and we would have were it not for Stan being absolutely fucking immense that day.

He's a lovely bloke, great ambassador for the club and always gives his all.
