This is horrendous news, obviously not some joke, so taking it has bang on genuine, I know someone that has just gone to that happy hunting ground in the sky with that same thing.

What a great shame, really feel for the man, a sad day indeed.

My cousin survived leukemia when he was around 4-7 years old. He managed to get through it althought he has the scars and lost full use of one hand. He's going to be 35 in a few weeks and i wasn't born at the time but I believe the prognosis was 4/5 die from the type of cancer then I really hope things have improved now. The news brings it home as the family still remember it. Really hope Stan makes it though it.

Dreadful news. Can't think of anything else to say. Shocked. Let's hope he gets through it.

I don't know the in's and outs of it, I know when he got it he was told there was not a lot they could do in his case, said treatment now was very much better but even then it only delayed the inevitable, they gave him about 2 years and they where right.

I just looked on the MacMillan web site and it's a bit more positive than Wikipedia:

Quote
When there is no sign of the leukaemia and the marrow is working normally this is called remission. With treatment, more than 9 out of 10 adults (90%) with ALL will go into remission. Further treatment, called consolidation, may be given to stop the leukaemia coming back. This is followed by more treatment known as maintenance that is given to prolong the remission for as long as possible.

For some, remission lasts indefinitely and the person is said to be cured. If the ALL comes back (relapses) after treatment, it can often be treated again and a second remission may be possible.

That sounds like him alright! Hope the lads get out there and give their absolute utmost for him. I know the fans will be as well.

Then we should all get down there and get right behind them for Stan.

That is more hopeful (and one would hope more reliable!).

I can quite believe this, he would want us to get out there and just bring home the points.

I read this just after 2pm and haven't done a stroke since.  It has absolutely knocked me for six.

As others have said, now is not the time for moaning, bitching and griping.  Let's pull together and show our support for Stan in the best way possible.

Get well soon skipper, we are all with you.

By all accounts he's much loved at the club. He always comes across as a genuinely nice guy. I hope it's been caught early, and he can recover as quickly as possible. If he put the same attitude into it, as he does when he pulls on a Villa shirt, I'm sure he'll beat it.

Really sad news.  I've always been a big admirer of Stan, his attitude is always top notch and he's never one to go missing when it gets tough.  I think he's a great role model to the younger pros at the club.  Fingers crossed he'll get through this.  Get well soon Stan.
