Actually, is getting AVB in the summer too far fetched?

He's blotted his Premier League copybook now (although I'm sure there will be jobs waiting for him in Europe) but I think with less pressure he'd be great.

Off-topic, but AVB was a dead man walking at Chelsea, Lampard, Terry, Cole & Drogba rule that dressing room. He had no chance. Those sort of players have seen many a manager come and go, whilst acheiving relativley nothing on the ptich for a couple of years.

Stan Collymore, with Alan Brazil as assistant.

I have a sneaky feeling it will be Glenn Roeder next.

I think he should appoint me, for the following reasons:

1. I have a huge amount of Premier League experience [I have watched it since it started, and even watched football before the PL came about!]

2. I have NEVER got any team relegated

3. I have THREE Villa tattoos! Randy take note

4. I dont have a recomendation from Siralex

5. I really do have a vision and desire to see Villa succeed

6. I have a long track record of managing staff and achieving targets

7. I have never managed the Blues

8. I would not piss off 5 days before the start of the season

9. I am not Alec McLeish

10. I would do it for a shed load less than anyone else

Go on Randy, give me a go!!!!!

I genuinely ran cold when I read that.

Probably more because I could actually imagine them doing it.

It won't be anyone from abroad unless they already have the required Premier League experience.  AVB just about qualifies, but more likely candidates that do meet the requirement include the stellar likes of Bruce, McCarthy, Bryan Robson and even someone like Gary Megson.  What's that you say, they've all been relegated, some several times?  Seems to be a bonus as far as RL and PF are concerned.  Was McLaren ever relegated? Maybe he's not as bad as some of the other options.

Lee Clark, Nigel Adkins, Paul Lambert, Brendan Rodgers.

All the right candidates but probably not even on the PF / RL radar.

It'll be another has-been / aspirant who is not quite good enough.

If you want a left-field guess: how about Ally McCoist? - not championing him, just speculating a left-field possibility.

Brendan Rodgers would be interesting. We've seen a few managers that come up, start well etc but it's the next season that show if they're cut out for it, or not, like Owen Coyle for example. Started well at Burnley, then did Ok at Bolton, but is now struggling.

I'd take a punt of Rodgers.

Not beyond our fuckwitted board to do it.

In fairness, I know we approached a few big hitters before appointing McLeish (they didn't want the season of austerity burden) but that just makes appointing him all the more confusing and annoying.

It's like looking at BMW, Mercedes, Jaguars and Audis and plumping for a Y reg Allegro instead.

Trevor Francis, with Steve Hodge as assistant manager and Enckelman as goalkeeping coach.

Bear in mind the Martinez fiasco.

Well, I wouldn't go as far as to say fiasco. He was asked to attend an interview but had already given Whelan his word he would stay at Wigan before ever we came calling. I was not happy we were considering him though because I dont rate him at all. Nice bloke though he is.
