I have no problems whatsoever with signings such as Bennett, Lowton and Stephens, but it looks like they are all being bought as starters in their positions with no experienced back up, which scares me.  I am content we essentially are rid of Heskey, Makoun, Hutton and Warnock, but to replace them with Bowery and the 3 guys above is pretty staggering giving we were on the verge of relegation last season.

Dempsey probably looked at our squad then looked at our position, can't blame him really.

it's two games, so I'd read nothing into that.

You can learn a lot from looking at the squad as it stands, though, it is woefully weak.

It is but we have strengthened it from last season a lot. KEA, Vlaar, Lowton, Bennet are all in for players we despised, so it is a better squad at the moment.

Roll up, roll up, come and join Aston Villa - our squad's threadbare, our owner's lost interest, we don't pay top whack (any more), we've got Alan fucking Hutton and we're bottom of the league - roll up, roll up!

After two games. We'll be fine.

you can, but do players really pull up the squad sheet of the club that have made a bid for him?

Dempsey has a preference and has essentially gone on strike until he gets the move he wants. You have to thnk Fulham, being really fucked off with how Liverpool have gone about this are now being complete twats to them in getting this deal done. Dempsey's under contract and they've essentially given up on him, so they probably don't care if this goes down to the very last minute. They've done their business and should have Berbatov today regardless of whether Dempsey goes or not.

Really we despised Petrov, Cuellar, Collins and Warnock?  Hutton maybe, Warnock and Collins needed upgrading but despised?  What makes you sure Bennett and Vlaar are upgrades on Collins and Warnock anyway?

NRC has been waiting by his phone all summer and will only answer it when the first 4 digits read 0039.

He will never take an incoming call again.

the chair I'm sitting on would be less of a liability in a PL game than Collins and Warnock. And don't get me started on Hutton. Losing all three is a massive addition by subtraction both on and off the pitch.

I have every faith in Paul Lambert. I have every faith in the young players we are buying coming good. What I do worry about is that Lambert is buying young players as directed by Lerner. Lerner has shown very little interest in the club of late and his strategy is clearly buying young players, to come good, to sell on, to make money.

Whilst I appreciate the finances of the club are important and we need to run properly, I think as chairman/owner of Aston Villa he needs to support the manager better.

Thanks Toronto, they were the players I obviously meant. To suggest Petrov was scurrilous.

I thought Warnock did ok when he went into midfield towards the end of last season. I'd be happy to keep him around as a back up midfielder. Hutton however was horrendous. Beye was better than him.
