There is absolutely nothing wrong with having young, inexperienced but keen and hungry players at the club.
The problem comes when you fill the team with them and do not supplement them with proven, experienced, quality players.
The even bigger problem is that we seem to have plenty on the first type, and very few of the latter.

You could though, still field a side with Given, Vlaar, Dunne, KEA, Ireland, Bent, Gabby, Holman, who are all over 25 and played a lot of games. Add in that Lowton and Bennet have played a significant amount of times for their clubs despite their youthful outlook and we are not as inexperienced as it first appears.

Looking at Bowrey's record he is only just 21 and scored 1 in 4 last season in a struggling Chesterfield side. £500k not much to gamble on, even a dozen premiership appearances will guarantee we get our money back.

We have moaned and moaned about not getting bargains. We sign 6 players for bugger all on fairly modest wages and we squeal about it. We have to see how it plays out. We are IMO a midfield player and 2 attacking options light still, but there are 2 days to go. Hoping for Gouffran, Benteke and some central midfield player out of obscurity.

I agree, I said this earlier "I remember the days when all we signed were overpriced Premier League players and a lot of people thought we should have been have scouring the lower leagues and abroad for better value players.

Now we're doing that a lot of folks seem to think we should be buying over priced Premier League players."

Get 2-3 more in over the next 2 days and I am excited to see how they shape together into a side over the next season or two. It will be a really slow start, but could be forming the nucleus of a decent side.

Just over 48hrs left to make the signings that will fill us with confidence that we wont be relegation candidates this season...I'm not a betting man, but I've never been this close to betting against my own team.

So far PL has been able to spot the weaknesses in the squad and drop who he doesn't want (the same ones that have been identified by many on here, myself included).
He has added to the squad and so far has filled in most the gaps, there is still time for a few more deals to be done.
No need to panic.

I love this:

"I am being told...... BBC journalists believe it is a done deal after he passed a medical today."

Presumably Gary Lineker rang them personally.

Do you know if loan deals are being looked at by the club? This is the only route I can see us getting an established name.

I haven't got a clue about anything.

Big problem with loan signings is they can only ever be a short term fix if the club which holds their contract is going to snatch them back once you have brought them on or leave you to pay their wages if they get knackered, then snatch them back.

TBH, we are at a level that a loan signing or two from the higher clubs would be a respectable tactic until PL can build further. I also expect him to make wiser choices then Sicknote Jenas.

I reckon we will have two more cheap signing then one blockbuster signing which we will left wondering how did we sign him :) I also think we could try to get a certain player on loan from Man City. But I can't guarantee it will be James Milner.

Man City are using a 3-5-2 formation a lot with Milner playing right wing back - he's got an important role for them this year.

Spot on. Someone like Benayoun from Chelsea.

bloody hell. Milner playing in any wide position is such a complete waste of talent. He could have gone on to be England's best central midfielders with us.

Nursery tweeted we had asked about Sturridge but he thought it was unlikely. I would love that!

I agree with you Som.   Loan signings can do a job and solve a problem.   The arrangement taken on face value is of benefit to the loaner and loanee club.   It starts to become shark infested water when players are loaned out which are not all they may seem.   There are plenty of totally unscrupulous managers out there who would loan out a player with problems only he and the player knew about.

TBH I think there is a lot of collective self deception going on here. Be honest, how many of us had actually heard of Bowery before today let alone put the guy on a  signings wish  list .Its a desperate move this late in the window. I'm really trying to be positive but realistically, will we be able to get two or three more quality players in before the deadline? Like someone said earlier, we've had all summer to bag Bowery, why now? I reallly admire others' faith but i'm disappointed with this one. Please let there be better news by Friday
