What was the consensus of what we needed this window?

Good back-up/challenger for Given's place: done.

Hutton and Warnock replaced by attacking full-backs: done.

New centre-half: done.

New midfield general: done.

Partner/competition for Bent/Gabby: still waiting.

Reserves to step up and look the part: Baker (so far).

Still a bit to do, another two new starters for Sunday please Paul, Paul and Randy. What's the consensus now on what more is needed?

Defence looks ok in terms of numbers, especially if Dunne doesn't move on, two quality signing needed though in midfield and up-front. Be good to get a couple of surprises too...

Be lucky if we sign one!

Well the team is slowly changing into Lambert's, hopefully his ideas and methods will come into fruition and we can all benefit from this. It will be nice to start enjoying watching Villa again and having players who I am proud to say play for us. It might take time but something has had to give and this could be the start of a great long term plan.

you can colour this any way you like but the Bowery move is totally and utterly bewildering. as someone posted earlier Chesterfield fans who have watched him consistently over the past couple of years can't see anything in him. PL obviously seessomething, but I really hope there's more to come before the deadline

I remember several posters expressing concern that Shef. Utd fans on forums didn't think Lowton was Premier League standard.  But he's looked like a good player to me in the two games I've watched him in.

If there's something I've learned reading football fan forums it's that 90% of those who post on them are idiots.  Unless it's RAWK where the figure is 100%.

I think fans of clubs in the lower leagues often feel like they're getting great deals because the fees involved are significant for them.  Whilst £600k for a young forward really is a no risk buy for us, even if we aren't spending like we were a few years ago.

How about a bit of PROVEN PREMIERSHIP QUALITY to get us out of the crap we're in !!

Unknown/unproven lower league no-marks are one hell of a gamble.

Ye gods.

Definately a striker still. but someone to add a bit of genuine steel either in central defence or midfield would be good. Then maybe another creative player as the current options of Bannan, Ireland and N'Zogbia make me want to weep.

There's nothing wrong with buying potential.

So long as this isn't the addition to our striking options we were hoping for.

Exactly, and also I'd have thought it isn't because didn't Lambert make reference to having a very young side and us needing some experience.

Two league games gone.  Two.  What crap are we in?  We're one point behind Spurs and Liverpool.

That'll be the one league win in 18 games crap as last years nightmare continues.

Oh and a quick look at Spurs and 'Pools squads suggests we may struggle to maintain the one point behind margin :(
