Kevin Doyle would be a terrible signing.

looking on the BBC gossip thingy they have southampton linked with nicolai boilesen for £5m.  Isn't he meant to be a bit special I've definitely heard the name amid talk of joining a big club, another centre half would be good and he's young enough that we could rotate him baker and clark a little until we found the right balance.  I think that could be one we'll regret missing out on if it happens.

He wouldn't improve us. He's a very ordinary championship level striker with a poor goal scoring record and we need more than somebody who knocks it about between midfield and attack without being any kind of threat.

We could easily do better without being fussy.

and  anyway Moxey will be asking 20mil for him!

I did'nt realise Kevin Doyle was 31. I had him down for 27 or 28. It's a no from me but we do need someone else up there to help out Bent.

As for other players to bring in, I'd like to see Shaun Maloney back personally. He's a cracking little player who seems to have decided he's no longer homesick for Glasgow.

Sorry my mistake he's 28.Whats more of a worry is 1 goal in 4.

Kevin Doyle is shit with a capital S.
And please, not Jones from Stoke - Heskey Mark II

We need 4 new signings, 3 at a push.

Reckon we'll end up with 2 and they won't be of the required standard.

My guess is that Lambert has had a rude awakening, i'm guessing he thought the squad were better players than they actually are.

And as for Lerner, he obviously doesn't want us relegated, but he's happy to have us droning along and doing just enough to keep us safe, with the bare minimum of investment.

A real fuck up that started when they couldn't control O'Neill, now we're suffering the consequences.

If 2 players is the limit which positions are we wanting as priority?

For me a left back is essential and needs to be the priority signing.

After that I'd probably look at a holding midfielder, not an NRC style destroyer but a pirlo style deep playmaker.  Someone experienced who can dictate the tempo and sit in the middle as the pivot for the rest.

I'm convinced that link up role in midfield is where we're falling down, we have creativity further forward but they're always so isolated they get picked off too easily.

What does Doyle do that Gabby can't do?

I guess he's not injured so he can actually go straight into our squad right now and provide some cover/competition.

Another suggestion which i think has already been made is playing N'Zogbia though the middle alongside Bent. Let's face it, it's not working for him out wide and he might feel a bit less under pressure not having to take players on all the time. If we throw Carruthers out wide once he's fit, we might look a better side for it.

A big part of the problem with nzog has been the lack of support from a decent fullback, too often he gets the ball and has no option but to take on his man.  The problem is once he is taking players on he tries too much, and without a full back overlapping teams can easily double up on him.  If we  get the attacking left back we need I think it'll help him hugely in the role he had on saturday.

I think the great majority of posters on H&V have had enough of N'Zogbia  perhaps Uncle Dave will be kind to us and have him back before the window closes.

However,I do hope we sign Stefan Keissling. His track record is very good over a long period of time. It would cheer me up no end if PL gets him on board.

If we don't make any more signings , are there 3 clubs in the premiership this season who are worse than us ?

If we could get Doyle for under £4m then I would be all for it. He links the midfield and front well and grafts his bollocks off. At worse he would do an ok job for us but given some of his previous, there is also the chance he could rediscover his goal scoring form and be crucial for us upfront with Bent

Maybe Norwich but no others. We're doomed I tell ya. Doomed!
