NRC wasn't good enough when we were pushing for the top 4, it's obvious we are a way off that now and he'd do a job and is gettable.

Problem signing players now though is they are more like panic buys rather than considered decisions.

It's a nightmare of a situation.

But we are not pushing for the top four now. We are pushing for the top seventeen.

Exactly why he'd do a job.

I agree with you Summers.   I was sorry to see Nigel go.   He did a job of work for us, he really cared whether we won or lost and he was the last captain we had who was vocal and prepared to go toe to toe with the sort of referee we had yesterday for the good of the team.   Okay, so he is not the best passer of the ball but a lot of that is down to the fact that we show so little movement off the ball that all the opposition has to do is see where our players are standing and stand there with them.

Which is what I meant to say. Misread your original post. Sorry.

As somebody said on the previous page, NRC didn't do that job very well for Bolton last year.

We've just appointed a new head of European scouting...hopefully he'll have already identified a few players rich for picking from the continent instead of tried and tested useless shite like NRC.
Maybe, but we have four days to sort out at least four quick fixes. NRC is is one of those quick fixes.

Bit like eating at McDoanalds. You know it is shit. But you also know what you are going to get, and sometimes it does the job.
I like that analogy and you are right in my view. His experience is needed right now and at least he has the fight in him to give his all.

Desperate times need desperate measures.   If we were full of confidence and settled into a groove of winning now and again I would be the first to agree that even contemplating NRC would be absurd in the extreme but we are not.   We are a mess.   Lambert or no Lambert we are a mess.   The simple question is whether you sooner have NRC trying to break up oppositions walking through what laughably passes for our defence or Delph or Fonz or Bannan or N'Zogbia.  NRC is also available and affordable which are two qualities not readily visible in the other dream signings.   Having a stoker at the wheel of the ship is better than having the ship's cat.

We do not need NRC. We need players suited to the new philosophy of keeping and using the ball. NRC is the other side of the world to that.

As I see it, we need a dominant central midfielder (and possibly a deep playmaker with a physical presence), a left back, an experienced centre half who can defend crosses and a #10 or powerhouse striker and we need them in the next few days. Which I admit is concerning.

Firstly, I'd get Tom Huddlestone in. Exactly the sort of player we need. We should not be allowing him to go to poxy Stoke.

When we were deep in the shit under GH/GMAC, they dropped an infinitely better passer of footballs in favour of the more agricultural qualities of NRC. It worked.

Some of the hissy fits are laughable. God knows how some of you would have copef in 1986/87.. Yesterdays result may well be a watershed moment for our leaders. It showed our 'squad' up. Mr Lambert was given a lesson that were not streetwise enough.. If he wants Cresswell bring him in same for sny player wherever they are playing. Get the Genk striker in  get Annan on loan be savvy in the market Huddlestone? Maybe. Guzan needs to be in goal Tuesday. Some on here need to chill and get down Villa Park once in a while. Lambert needs  support. Some of the players need support. Its a big week but come on dont panic..yet!

Yes, Maz, I totally agree but it is unlikely in the extreme that the players of the quality we need are going to be available let alone affordable in the next four days.   I would have NRC's agriculture over the tissue paper flimsiness of Delph, Bannan, Fonz and N'Zogbia every hour of the day every day of the week.

Nige is better than what we have now ,which doesn't say a lot but we need 3 or 4 signings of quality this week and Lerner needs to back his manager with decent cash.

Sad state of affairs that it seems the ambition is to stay in the premier league , stoke and Sunderland are passing us by and we look to have a very poor side indeed mostly young players not good enough and overpaid under performers - a long season ahead I fear but at least we have a decent manager this time.

im not a fan getting injury prone players in on loan. Huddlestone has played 16 league games in 2 seasons. He wont be hitting the ground running and will take months to get back into regular football. He isnt worth a loan move. A fully fit Tom Huddlestone is certainly a good player that would improve us but if he is worth getting in then he is a 4m or so type of buy.

NRC would walk into our side at the moment, probably as captain. Thats a sign of how bad we are in the shit.
