I would like to see us sign Frimpong on loan for the season for one. Ideally with the option to buy but if Arsenal weren't prepared to agree to that, take him anyway. Today showed that we've got a lot of work to do and not much time to do it.

I just read this on VT:

We don't have a single player that I enjoy watching.

Not one single player that excites me in any way.

and really, I totally understand how he feels. There's a flatness about us, a lack of talent, urgency and motivation, that scares me to death.
Its a good point, theres not one player that when he gets the ball you think oh arr, the only time I've had that in the past year or so was with Carruthers brief cameo's last season.

That is spot on where we are.

I agree too. Bannan is shite, Clark is too soft to be a centre half, Fonz is not good enough for the Premier League, Zog blows hot and cold, as does Ireland.  We are in desperate need of some experienced players.  Huddlestone on loan would be a huge no for me as he's a fat knacker but if he can prove his fitness, it might not be a bad bit of business.  Big IF though.  We are in real need of another holding player for midfield, a left back, possibly another centre back and a striker.  I can't see Villa signing any more than two more players this window, one of them will probably be a last minute loan.

The only way I can see NRC returning is if we hit Sept 1st with essentially the same set of midfielders and we start scouring the free agent market in panic.

He was never as good as he should have been for us, but definitely a better proposition than Agathe and Pires were.

Yes, completely agree. We are devoid of a hero or a player that we can identify with. Think just a few years back with Carew, Milner, Laursen, Olly, an up and coming talent in Gabby and Ash. They were all players we enjoyed watching and someone you could sing about and really get exicted when they had the ball. There's none of that right now.

Albrighton is the only one in the current squad for me - and he's always bloody injured.

Lambert isn't that bad! In all seriousness, I agree - he looks very good.

Depressingly true.  I was thinking today it was less than 4 years ago when we scored THAT goal at Goodison, with a midfield that included Petrov, Milner, Barry and Young.  Compare that to today's midfield of N'Zogbia, KEA, Bannan and Herd.  No wonder I don't get excited at games any more

Very good point. We've always had players that can excite and lift Villa Park. I wonder who the young Villa fans look upto now out of our current squad...there really arent any good options out there right now. How depressing!

Has that Ghanaian chap found a club yet, Annan?

If NRC was prepared to play for free in turn for all those months he was on the bench (not entirely his fault) despite us paying him 30k a week after tax, I'd consider him.

It's depressing seeing Fletcher and Jarvis go for £25m between them. We'll be lucky to spend half that amount this week.

I'd had a lovely off-season too not having to worry about this shit.  I'm beginning to dread the football season.
