Nobody is in a relegation dog fight after two games of the season, FFS.

"It's tight down there, just the THIRTY SIX games to put it right".

Today was awful, but for fuck's sake, "relegation dogfight"?

HEAD IN CLOUDS LIKE THE CHAIRMAN

What bollocks.

I'm entirely aware of how piss poor we were today, how threadbare and weak the team is, and how many players we need to get in before next Friday.

I can understand, though, that there's no such thing as a relegation dogfight after two games of the season.

I agree. It's a bad start but no team has won or lost anything yet. If you want an example of how things can change the bridge jumpers should track how, ironically, Everton have started most campaigns in the past 5 years. I'm even sure that in one of those years they were stuck in the bottom three around November and still finished top 8. Nothing at all is decided yet.

Everton are a good team who have started slowly in the last few years, but always pull it together and finish strongly, due to their good squad of players and excellent manager.  We've had two seasons in a row where we've struggled to avoid relegation, and our squad is getting progressively weaker.  Using Everton as an example is just utterly desperate I'm afraid.  And wrong.

No it's not. If they are such a strong squad they wouldn't start like shit most seasons. They start slowly and then because they have a good manager they pull things together. You're acting like the season is over and yet it is only a few weeks ago where you were predicting we would finish 5th. We need to give this manager time to figure things out and get players in which is the priority now.

Please don't take a semi tongue-in-cheek prediction too seriously.  I always thought that we'd be OK for upper mid table if Lambert was allowed to carry on strengthening the team.  He hasn't, and our squad is definitely of "relegation scrap" quality.  It's just shit, frankly.  Hardly any quality, whatsoever, unlike Everton who have lots of very good players all over the pitch.

of course we need to give the manager time but my deliberately provocative post earlier was to point to the reality. 1 win in 18 is the form of a team in a relegation dogfight. We were very lucky to escape last season and we'll be even luckier if we avoid it now. The fact is PL is not a miricle worker. You have to invest in this leagure merely to tread water and Randy is simply putting a little bit of investment in to replace players who leave. Not adding  to the squad is fatal - it can only drag you down. The truth is the squad isn't good enough,  and no one wants to buy the people we want and need to get rid of, ergo,  no one else can come in. Depressing and it really hurts when you see club's who can't hold a candle to ours leaving us behind. Randy needs to invest simply to stay in the PL.

Oh, you're prediction is semi tongue in cheek now is it? Will calling the owner a c*** be semi tongue in cheek if at the end of the season we are a lot better than we are now? You're acting very childishly to be calling the owner that irrespective of how you may feel about how he spends his money. He isn't a murderer or rapist. The way you are making out he's as bad as that if you are resorting to that kind of language.

He's not a very good asset stripper, if you look at how much money he's wasted over the recent period.

If you look at his chairmanship, we've somehow managed to spend a gigantic amount of money on players in six years, and currently have a squad which is weaker than the one we had six years ago.

He needs to put his hand in his pocket and seriously back his manager, quickly, or we're in trouble.

But having said that, if you reckon he's an asset stripper, you don't know what the term means - which means you should probably refrain from throwing it around.

Does anyone think part of the deal of getting Lambert was he couldn't sign any of their players.

Only saying that as someone who really impressed me last season was Anthony Pilkington. Wide player but can also come inside. Scores goals and has a decent cross.

I'd say he's a realistic signing who'd improve us, would say he'd cost 5-6m.

I watched the fans forum thing with Lambert on AVTV the other day, and someone asked him about signing Grant Holt. His reply was along the lines of "the way I left Norwich, I don't think they're going to be selling me any players for a while".

So Lerner bought the club for a song, and has methodically sold all the best players. He is now reducing the wage outgoings by selling any player on a deemed high wage. Any money he has contributed is a debt to him that would be repaid if the club was sold. Thoughts?

Yes, that still isn't asset stripping.

Apart from Barry, sold all the best players that he bought in the first place and has a net spend of over 50m, and has continually propped up the wages. He is a glaringly shit business man, and does not have enough nouse to run the football club very well, but he is not an asset stripper.

PL talking about transfers after the game today:

"If something comes available and I think it's worthwhile, then you can look at it.

"Randy, Paul and I will sit down and see what's going to happen. We will see."

At least it wasn't a no I suppose.

Ok bought the club for £60m,net spend of £50m. Club sold for say £200m? By the way I agree he doesn't seem to have enough nouse to run/own the club.
