No need to panic until Pelty comes on and tells us 'the board will back him'.

agreed nothing fundamental has changed. all we have done thus far is underinvest and swap one TSM for another and whilst the new model might be better he can't polish turds

Disagree with that.  Yes, we haven't seen too many players coming in, but one thing Lambert has done is ensure that the structure off the field is in place.  He has already laid some solid foundations at the club and I think we will see the benefits of that over the coming seasons.

This season is about getting more out of the players we have & replacing those who are not good enough.

I'm expecting a better defensive performance now that we have got rid of Collins, who has dropped another bollock for West Ham today.

My only concern is that for the past 2 seasons we have had a bad patch where we have been overrun with injuries to key players. We have lost a number of players & the squad looks very, very thin already. I'm expecting PL to get much more out of the players we have but we must surely sign 2 or 3 players or re-introduce Warnock & Hutton if we can't sell or replace them.

Had the tour of Villa Park again last week. 80% of the trip concentrated on the corporate side of things. A lot of talk of cost cutting and being able to pay own way.
Chap we met on tour said his feeling was that Randy was not going to be here long term.  That during the winter before MON left there was a real change in attitude.
The North Stand being something of a grand project for Randy is now totally mothballed.

Not sure what I think of Randy, I guess if you realise you cannot compete, why would you throw money at it?

Good day however, but guess we all enjoy being at VP. Nice to have two hours of it.

Aaron Cresswell is in the Ipswich starting line up this afternoon, maybe nothing imminent there then.

What do you mean when you say a "chap you met” on the tour?  Would he realistically have any behind the scenes knowledge.

really he said that? i was reading some of the tripe he was saying the other day but not very in depth i saw him slagging off risso and a few others, but if he said that then surely thats the nail in his coffin as far as these boards go. i doubt anyone will really be willing to listen to him after coming out with that line. yet more proof if needed that he just does not get the english game and fan loyal tee. as for randy i really am finished with this debate he is on the same level as doug at this moment in time in the way that just enough is good enough. the TSM screw up and the houllier debacle we all deep down know bent was a panic buy and im sure come january we will do it again if we are in trouble im here for the long haul dreary mid table finish after dreary mid table finish punctuated by the odd european tour and cup run. ahhh the good old days are back again we have to adjust our expectations back to the doug days and just sit it out and wait for the next guy with wads of cash to show us some love because in reality there are at least 6 clubs in this league we cannot compete with on a financial level. But us fans are a loyal bunch and the tought of turning my back on the villa makes me feel ill.

reality check for everyone saying its too early to panic. It isn't. We are in a relegation dog fight a week into the new season. So much for the vibrancy etc promised when TSM got his cards

I dont like to quote myself, but...
I'm not going to start to panic yet and tomorrows game against Everton will give us a fairer picture of how desperate we need more signings.
...at least todays performance and result should give PL a better indication of what we're missing and send a loud message to Randy that if he doesnt provide funds for players then we wont be a Premier League team for much longer. I dont expect us to sign players that will push us into the European places or even top half of the league, but they've got a week to sign 3 or 4 much needed quality experienced players to keep us out of relegation.
