watched a bit of bolton v forest there. bolton have 2 better widemen than we do. Lee is surely worth a punt.

worrying that all the talk is about who is leaving and very little about who is coming in. Lambert even if he is the second coming of Mourinho will do well to keep the current squad in the league.

If we don't strengthen the current squad then it is a certainty that we will be relegated.

It'll all happen this week - our two erstwhile fullbacks will get shipped out, even if on loan; we'll bring in a couple, maybe three, other players.
No need to panic (*holding hands together in praying motion*).

I think Mon has got himself two quality players. I wonder what salaries they will be on?

It's a shame we appear to be shopping at Lidl whilst teams like Sunderland are popping in to Waitrose and M & S.

Well, Fletcher is okay - 30 goals in three EPL seasons is alright.
Johnson will be on 60-80k a week; mad but probably not far off the mark. Fletcher may be on less.

They'll do okay there, but probably flatter to deceive.

I'd take them both right now. They would be the difference between bottom half and top half, IMO

Agree, I had the same feeling last season, although we just about got away with it. i can't see any significant signing before the deadline. I predict a serious struggle up to January and us being bottom six by then. Lerner will then press the panic button and sanction some signings to just about keep us up again. He will panic over the thought of missing out on the massive SKY deal which increases the pot from £1.7Bn to £3Bn from 2013. God knows what will happen if Vlaar or any other senior players get injured this side of Christmas. There's a serious lack of leadership at the top with no direction. Lerner and Faulkner are hopeless.

agreed nothing fundamental has changed. all we have done thus far is underinvest and swap one TSM for another and whilst the new model might be better he can't polish turds

People need to chill.
We have signed quality players.
We have a better coach than the one we had last year.
Randy has not "completely given up" or given up.
Sunderland are wasting money  and not shopping at glamour stores. Fletcher failed to make every game even for Wolves last season. He is no Drogba of 5 years ago. Adam will have 1 good game in 5 as usual.
We will NOT get relegated with the current squad.

Unfortunately, we have a few wayward, layabout sons who either refuse or are unwilling to contribute to the cause at the minute, meaning our budget is stretched unfairly and unnecessarily.

When we manage to persuade the little leeches to 'leave home' it'll free up more cash for a spending spree.

Although I suspect that would be in Asda as opposed to M&S.

Faulkener  seems to think we can still shop at Woolworths!

The trouble is, for the 3rd summer in a row, we have not bought a player that you sit up and think, wow he is bloody good. Bent was the last one, but was signed much more out of sheer necessity than anything else, and I am pretty sure Houllier would have bought the players to keep supplying him rather than Hutton and NZogbia. Give the 18m that Eck spent last summer to Lambert and I think it would have been spent very differently. Wage wise though, we must be down under 60million now for the squad and club from the 84 it was. So there has to be room, especially knowing Dunne, Petrov and Warnock end their deals next summer, to add 3 players on decent ish wages.

If we are not playing with wingers as people keep saying, we need another forward thinking central midfielder with proven quality. I like a winger and Ince and Phillips are exciting to watch hence my wanting of them, but if not to be we need some creativity through the middle. Big game for Ireland and Zoggy today.

Absolutely agree Ozzjim.

Not only that, but for the first time in several seasons, we haven't had to sell our perceived best player. While on the surface that appears to be a good thing, sadly it only goes to show we no longer have players other clubs covet.

FWIW,  I doubt our transfers are concluded just yet and I think we'll be ok this season, but forget any delusions of top 6 finishes. This rebuild is going to take years.

People need to man the fuck up and sit tight.

The man knows what he's doing, and he'll make the right deals.

We'll be fine.
