One match gone and we are above where we finished last season and ahead of Manchester United and Liverpool!

OK the test will be how we play on Sat at home - not the result even but the way we try to play that will tell me whether this season will be as painful as the last.

And its not like these players are playing for the first time is it - they are highly paid individuals who are given pretty basic instructions to follow. TSM's was easy to follow - hoof the fucker and then get every man behind the ball and batten down the hatches

I want to see evidence of something different

But it is the result that's paramount. I  don't care how we play on Saturday, what I want is a win, which would be only our second in 18 PL matches. FFS is that too much to expect of 11 people who between them earn more in a month that the annual GDP of some third world countries?

Well I can assure you that you will. Everything is to feet, I can't even remember Given kicking it long on Saturday.

If it's 0-0 with 20 minutes gone, I guarantee some idiots will start shouting "get it forward" or "stop pissing about with it". I sometimes wonder whether we even deserve good football.

It is one game. He can't just wave a wand and make it happen. It will take time to get them playing the way he wants.

I am sorry but is that not what pre season is all about? He was with the players from the start and his signings were in early also.
I am not having a go at PL i am really pleased that we have him (although i would have had anyone after TSM as he was that bad)

We were fed the lines of attacking football - the first game saw no evidence of that, neat and tidy yes but attacking no - as others have said pre season played every game with 2 strikers - season starts and revert to the shite we watched last year albeit with a bit more passing about

Laudrop had even less time with his lot and lost a key player but still Swansea attacked

I cannot stand another season of gutless, blunt football

If you're concluding that we were the same as last season on the weekend's display, you need to give last season's DVD review a watch. We didn't do much with the ball on Saturday, but we kept it and by doing so gave ourselves a chance. Last season we don't get 50%+ possession in that game. As Lambert said, it doesn't mean much if you don't do anything with the ball, but you need to have it in the first place and it's a better platform.

I do happen to agree with this.  Ok, we want to see exciting football but sometimes I really dont mind seeing a scrappy 1-0 victory from time to time just so we get 3 points

So you've made your mind up on the basis of ONE league match?

Christ almighty. I honestly don't know what to say to that. I don't see how you're not having a go at PL (it's your prerogative if you want to, mind) if you're complaining we weren't playing attacking football, and all we've played is our first league game.

Laudrup has had less time with his team - a team who have been playing the way he wants them to for years now. Don't you see how it's a lot easier to get a team playing football for you if they've already been playing it for several years?

I don't think any meaningful conclusions can be drawn from one game.  Be it the positives (ball retention) or negatives (lack of cutting edge), we won't know exactly how the team is shaping up until about 10 games in.  So for know let's not get too concerned, or optimistic should we beat Everton, and just wait and see.

The passing way up the pitch is the right way to go, but we have to have people in the final 3rd that can create space by committing defenders and then know when to get the into the box etc. We also need to learn how to counter attack effectively using the ball at speed. It will take time, but it needs a couple of attacking players brought in to help it too.

I think Lambert's relying on Albrighton setting the world alight when he returns from injury.

Did they actually have the nerve to issue one. That was brave of omeone in the marketing/sales dept.

I think he is expecting Gabby to be a big part of the jigsaw in fairness, which he might be if he is used to run at the opposition.

If we're comparing our first game to Swansea's, we might consider the huge helping hand Laudrup had from the letters Q, P and R (Sesame Street voice).

Teams have won big and gone down before. The opening game is often a really strange game for most teams. Swansea have bought very well it would seem, goalscoring midfielder etc, players Laudrup knew. They hit the ground running. Lambert needs 2 years to get his team on the pitch and playing how he wants.

People will buy them no matter what for collecting purposes, and we seem a wee bit desperate for money at the minute.
