We desperately need an engine with a bit of poise on the ball and the ability to dictate the tempo a bit. I'm not sure Adam is the answer.

James Milner would drastically improve our team but that ain't going to happen.

Adam Johnson for me so much better on the ball than N'zogbia would commit defenders and leave space for Bent.

Adam Johnson, Charlie Adam, Aaron Cresswell and Kenwyne Jones please.

Or similar players from abroad. But for the needs of the team, I wouldn't be against shopping in England for these players. Adam is rated as shit by Liverpool, but he's a good player and he'd suit us well right now. Johnson could be pricey, so it could be worth looking elsewhere.

I would like both Milner, Johnson for midfield and that is about likely as Aston Villa to win the domestic triple this season.

The Makoun saga is a joke. Surely we can find him a bride in order to get his work permit.

Not sure Makoun would be the answer.  Looking at the midfield yesterday and how we meandered through the match I think we need someone with energy/drive who can get a grip of the midfield and drive us forward. Makoun to me is too similar to the two touch football played by the ones we already have.  We need a bit more of a mixture.

Someone like the ones Newcastle picked up last year.

Reflecting on yday, the problems were Holman and N'Zog.At times the interplay between KLM, Delph , and Ireland was very good, and got into positions to give the ball to the front 3 to do something with the ball.Holman and N'Zog never beat there player once.

As someone else said, a Robbie Keane player is eactly want we want, A Sessegnon, Scott Sinclair, Ince, kind of wide/inside foward kind of player, Lee is'nt a bad shout either.

A LB who attacks is a priority as well.

Matt Phillips would be a great signing . I'd also like us to try for berbatov.

That's about £30m just on fees never mind wages. I'd be stunned if we had a splurge liket hat in mind. I'd be happy with a decent left back and a link forward. Did Ireland, Holman or CNZ fulfill this role yday?

The sheer scale of the puns in this thread is ridiculous.

Agree.
If you took out the puns we'd probably have a very managable 10 pages  ;D

People saying we lacked 'energy' are a being a little unrealistic, I think. On several occasions Delph burst through the middle of the park to create space. The problem was, yesterday, that West Ham just set up with eleven behind the ball and we didn't have an answer. What were we meant to do - be more 'energetic'? How would that help?

We needed more creativity in attacking midfield and more creativity and movement up front. For me, Bannan has to replace N'Zogbia for the Everton game and serious questions have to be asked of Holman and even Bent.

Lots of people were predicting a net spend of £20m this summer, and even more after the sale of the Browns.  I'd be extremely surprised if we've spent anywhere near that come the end of August.

How anybody could believe that selling the Browns would mean big spending by us, is beyond me.
As Faulkner said in his own words.
'The sale will make no difference to Villa, good or bad.'

Serious investement is needed and we're not going to get it from a disinterested Lerner.

I like this kid, Dean Cox. Very fast and skilful. reminds me of Micky Wright et al.
I have seen him twice and the stadium lights up when he gets the ball. Up the wing and into the centre unless he goes for goal himself. Irrepressible.
Get him before someone else sees the potential.

spot on about Randy. evertything points to a  sale if a buyer can be found. Statistics don't lie, one win in 17 PL games. The squad is shite and it needstoo much reinvestment for Randy to swallow. Appointing PL was pointless without significant financial backing which will not happen under the current regime. A net spend of 6.5m doesn't even touch the sides of what is needed
