Charlie Adam and Clint Dempsey for me. I'd try and offer Ireland to Fulham in part exchange. And Adam as part of the money owed for Downing.

Adam? Fair shout. He didn't live up to expectations at Liverpool last season but their season was pretty dreadful. He could work in our team provided with pace around him and I don't think he would feel like he would be playing with so much pressure.

Its absolutely vital we replace Petrov if he can't come back which is why I find the whole Makoun saga just completely crazy. Our midfield has looked thin ever since Milner left.

We need to seriously invest into this team with 2 weeks remaining, we can't be left wondering once the window shuts. Although we need to be realistic with what signings we could make that doesn't mean to say Randy should be overlooking quality as I do hope "quality signings" are still budgeted for.

Cant see defoe leaving spurs unless they sign a couple more strikers, they are short of quality in that area.

Not a chance, I'm afraid. He wants to play Champions League football before he's too old, and we're quite far behind Fulham in the pecking order at the moment - who he refuses to play for.

Yes, why on earth would Dempsey come here. More likely to swallow his pride and stay at Fulham I reckon.

We clearly need a left back. We'll have to see if Lambert's slightly unusual midfield structure is going to see us create chances. But I'm not going to read much into one game. We hardly ever win away on the first day and often lose / don't score (Spurs, Everton, Portsmouth, Fulham away games spring to mind - but in the Gregory years we were much better at keeping a clean sheet).

I said Adam on the match thread yesterday. West Ham had a lot of men behind the ball when we had possession and he is the type that given freedom can create something. Available for about 5 million according to the press.

Phillips and Sinclair either side would do me though, out and out pace and ability to stretch the game, while also able to tuck in and still at an age they can improve and kick on. We had nothing on the bench able to effect the game yesterday. That needs to change.
