Absolutely. The bloke has got a record of 1 in 2 across 38 games for us.

We haven't had a forward like him in 20 years.

last season was an anomaly. In every team he has played for with any consistency where the intent was to attack, he's been prolific. Playing for TSM must have sucked the life out of him. He's got a proven track record that you put the ball in the box there are few better in the PL to finish the job. If he can stay clear of injuries he'll get 20 this season.

People talk about Hutton, Warnock and Dunne still being on the books, but dont forget Petrov and Makoun are too.  I'm sure it's the wages of these 5 guys that have us hamstrung.  Let's say conservatively they are on an average of £40k per week, theoretically we could shell out £10mill this season on these guys and actually get little or no playing time back from them in return.  Luckily 4 of them are out of contract next season, but until they go it will be difficult to bring in new players, you can't have Dunne, Warnock etc. kicking around the reserves on £40k per week, it would cripple us.  If we could shift a couple before the end of the month I'm sure we will see 2/3 new arrivals.

You can't really include Petrov in that as his circumstances are beyond our control and if things were different i'm pretty sure he'd be playing.

Could have seen Stan playing a pivotal role in our midfield had things been different.  Could have seen him playing the deep midfield role, a role that would have suited him well.

A midfielder who's calm and can keep the ball would've fitted into Lamberts way of playing.

Not too sure, to be honest. I thought he was having his best season for us until his illness.

He got dogs abuse on here.'Too slow' 'Can't last 90 minutes' it might have been down to his illness.
He has played under 3 managers and they didn't know where his best position was.

I think he would have if Houllier was still here.

Under McLeish we played way more narrow, leaving Petrov less exposed. He was much better.

That's what I don't understand. It's weird that he played Warnock in all our pre season matches and then suddenly dropped him entirely. That would suggest we have a left back imminent and that Warnock is Ovski (you would think) but now it looks like nothing is imminent, which makes this behaviour even stranger

If you'd seen his performance at Forest you'd understand why, he couldn't pass or even trap a ball. He just seemed so out of touch it was unreal. I can fully understand why he wouldn't play him, on that form he's a liability. Maybe Lambert thinks it's less risky to play someone else there than play Warnock or maybe it's a warning that to Warnock & any others that Lambert won't accept sub-standard performances.

We all know that there's a decent player in there somewhere but I don't think we'll see him again.

Bent was still pretty much bang on his career average before the injury. 9 in 22. And he missed a few sitters IIRC. A fit Bent in a more attacking side is quite the prospect.

Given that Bent had that statistic last season about having the fewest touches per game in the Premier league, due to our piss poor, negative tactics, 9 goals in 22 was pretty impressive.

On the evidence of the Bremen game don't think Stevens is ready yet, and when Delph moved to left back later he didn't look comfortable

Re Petrov in affect he has been moved on he will never play again and we are insured so his wages are covered . Just hope the bloke makes a full recovery in time

The Makoun situation is strange. He is supposed to be having work permit problems, shouldnt the club be sorting this out.
Is he getting paid full wages by the club as this situation seems to be no nearer being solved than it was three weeks ago.

Seems pointless paying someone to do nothing.
