Everton have sold 13 players. Rodwell going to Man City so the money they have recuperated. (including dropping the wage bill) is substantial. This is the route Lambert is taking. But off loading the "deadwood" is the hard bit. Getting rid of Dunne, Warnnock and Hutton free`s up a million pound a month. It will take at least two transfer windows to get to a point where Lambert has players who are all involved in the first team and justifying there wages and position ..........

Back on the Milner debate from a few days ago, Rodwell signing for Citeh may make Milner available on a loan.

Something’s got to give at Man City.  De Jong is often being touted as being available for about 6M, maybe even Barry.  Villa should definitely have Man City on their speed dial as there will be bargains booted out at some point.  Just as they pay too much they also have to virtually give players away (and pay their wages) to get them off their books.

just backtracking to the Everton have sold 13 players post. sold since when? By my reckoning that leaves them with just the guy with the afro and a couple of free tickets to the Lion King or whatever show Bill is involved with.

It could be the same as us last year, when we were supposed to have got rid of a dozen or so players and that included Academy graduates getting a  free when their contract ended.

You can't mention Bill Kenwright's name without the prefix " theatre impresario".

It's the law

So a bunch of youth players being released on frees? It's about the same as us last summer where we had about 15 players leave but they were just youth players and Carew.

Apart from Cahill and Rodwell (who is injured much of the time anyway and I thought they would get 20 for) that is a list of people who hardly ever play.

The thing about Everton is that they always give you the impression they are completely skint, never make a signing and continuously offload players at a level disproportionate to clubs of a similar status or stature in the league. It's a myth. Yes, they might not spend quite as much from a net standpoint as some others but they are hardly Portsmouth. Given how much people talk about their "plight" and how wonderful and valiant Moyes you'd think they lived at Death's door.

Why is David Weir on that list? He left Everton five years ago. And he didn't retire.

You’re right there Lambo.  They’re a reasonably well run club but just lack a sugar daddy at the top allow them to get to the next level.  Let’s be honest, even during our spending years they finished above us.  They also have a habit of bringing through genuine premiership players from their academy.  Rooney, Rodwell, Hibbert and Osman have established themselves in the premier league, with Barkley and Coleman coming through now.
