People are forgetting Milner is from the North East.
He wouldn't need a pay cut Shitty would pay some of his wages.Thinking it might happen.

Milner is not from the north east, hes a leeds lad , yes he played for newcastle after leeds but was born and raised 75 miles away from tyneside.

Whether mackem fans would take to an ex toon player is another question, whereas he had a great rapport with villa fans and always  gave 100%.
I didn't say he was born there. He has played more games for Newcastle than any other club.

You said he was from there. He isn't. He's also played more games in a Villa shirt than a Newcastle shirt.
Not counting the games on loan.I am in one of those moods today.

So where's Fletcher going to then? Sunderland or Villa?

He never said he played more for them, he said he played for them. Snigger.

The striker situation is an interesting one: do we need an additional striker because the 4 we have are not reliable enough to score the goals we need (either through fitness or ability reasons)?
Or, have we got reliable strikers who were not served adequately by the rest of the team last season?

IMO, Lambertino should wait until January and give the new squad / new management team the opportunity to identify the real issues. It's a risk, but we will not find out whether Fonz and Weimann can really do it at EPL level unless we take that risk.

I think we can take that risk in all but two positions - LB and striker.  Those two positions need to be addressed before the window closes and in the case of a LB, preferably before the season starts.  I think most people on here will already have an opinion on whether the Fonz is going to make it at Premiership level and we can't be relying on Weimann at his young age.  Even if it is a loan signing, we need another striker bringing in asap.

"Take that risk" Gabby is out for at least a month. Bent has been out for months so is still prone to a set back. Which leaves two totally unproven strikers with limited PL experience to produce goals and win games. I call that potential suicide .....

I like Steven Fletcher. He's a very hard working aggressive player that will put himself about. He's at a good age with PL experience and did well last season in what must have been a difficult campaign at Wolves. If we buy him then he's worth what Lambert thinks he's worth, but I agree that the prices being suggested are a bit nuts. I though 7-8 would get him not 12+. That's a little mental.

Wolves are inflating the price as Burnley are owed 15% sell on fee.

So if Bent gets injured again then we're relying on the younger strikers for a month?  I don't think we have that big an issue upfront and IF we do bring one in it'll be because of the ability issue, and not injuries, with the Fonz probably moving on.

I also rate fletcher highly but must admit i was surprised sunderland offered £10m for him and even more surprised wolves turned it down- if we do get him we will have to pay well over the odds to do so.

I haven't seen anything to indicate we have any interest in bidding for Fletcher.

Fletcher is reasonable but we can do better and certainly at some of the prices suggested. That would buy you one hell of a player abroad for instance.

Precisely, and I still don't see any firm interest from us.
