Didn't we give Given a 5 year deal to bump his money up a bit?

Yeah Given signed a 5 year deal.  I guess we can add contract negotiations to the list of things that TSM is terrible at.

I don't remember anyone questioning it at the time, although I accept there may have been one or two.
It's amazing how many come out of the woodwork when a player fails to deliver.
Look at N'Zogbia, apart from me and a couple of others everyone was saying to get him in. As soon as he stumbled and stalled his way through the season it became ' Effing McLeish, why did he buy him?'  ;D

I remember quite a few people expressing surprise at the length of Given's contract when he signed Nigel.  It seemed an odd decision when his age and recent injury record were taken into account.  In all reality, he probably wouldn't have signed for us had he not been given the assurance of such a lengthy contract, so I guess his agent must have got him the deal he wanted.

As for N'Zogbia, it is clear the talent is there but it soon became apparent that TSM had no idea how utilise, motivate or get the best out of him.

Scott Sinclair is on his way to Man City.

Guess Adam Johnson will be available now. Probably out of our reach at the minute though.

Linked with a move to Liverpool involving Agger

I'd like Adam Johnson. Useful on either side. Him and (an in form) N'Zogbia with Ireland, Holman and Bannan could be enough supply for Bent and Weimann.

Scott Sinclair is apparently shagging the girl who plays Rosie Webster in Corrie.

Lucky, lucky man.

What, right now? That's some pretty precise information Paulie.

Couldn't agree more here, I think it's the case with most wingers with flair in that a defensive approach will make them look like complete shit. Just look at the difference between Albrighton under TSM and under Houllier in his 'breakthrough season'.  I'm sure Zog will come alive this season.

N'Zogbia couldn't get much worse than last season, really! That said, I agree he was poorly utilised by TSM, and as part of an attacking 'unit' (as in, a front three or four) he should have the freedom to make the most of his ability.

Naughton - £4mil? - Versistile?
Bassong - £4mil? - Good defender, will not be needed at Spurs.
Jarvis - £8mil? Can play either side. Gets lots of crosses in
Frimpong (Loan)
Sturridge (Loan)

Frimpong is a good shout and a viable signing next summer if that Turkish fella joins Arsenal.
Sturridge is 2nd choice striker at Chelsea at the moment after Torres with all his inconsistencies, so I doubt that is a go-er.  I’d ask about Dzeko at City.

Dzeko would be on wages we couldn't afford. If we're looking at a striker from City it would more likely to be that Guidetti bloke who was also at Feyenoord last season. They've still got Santa Cruz...

Nobody's coming out of the woodwork and it was'nt just one or two, alot of people said it was daft to give a 35 year old with a history of injuries a 5 year contract.

For how much he'd cost in fee and wages I wouldn't want Sturridge. I think he's overrated and I don't like his attitude. He'll never be as good as he thinks he is. On loan I'd accept, but they won't loan him out.

The only way it would be viable would be if City subsidised his wages like they did for Adebeyor at Spurs last year.  I fear that Dzeko would be able to find a bigger club than us though.

I tend to agree. I compare him and Welbeck, as they're similar in age and ability. But not attitude, Welbeck seems to be a more down to earth bloke, Sturridge however seems to have a huge chip on his shoulder.
