Fonz blew his chance on loan at Burnley, they weren't impressed.
I may be wrong but weren't they playing him on the wing?

Not being funny but Warnock could just play at LB. Let's face most on here say he's better going forward so let's try and get him back on the form that earned him England recognition. It's funny how people use the McCleish being crap argument to justufy poor form from some players yet forget it when it's someone they dislike. Warnock isn't nearly as bad as some poeple on here make out, he always gives 100% and like many last year suffered from low confidence so rather than getting stung for £6m to purchase as unknown, bide our time and get value for money at the right time. It's not an urgent position IMO with Enda as back up.

Warnock was being crap long before TSM came along.

So had Gabby and I'm sure others could be added to that list too. I just don't feel we should buy for the sake of it. Obviously, you disagree.

Obviously, you don't like people disagreeing with you!

It's not buying for the sake of it if you genuinely feel the player needs replacing.  Gabby had a good patch at the start of last season.  Players like Collins and Dunne had a good 2nd half of 10/11, as did many others, which was when Houllier had Warnock out of the side.

So, when was the last time Warnock had a good patch for us?
I can't remember him having a good half let alone a good patch.

Why not ship Fonz out on loan for the season and see if he can score goals at a lower level ?
If that's what Lambert thinks is best for then that's fine by me.

A promotion hunting Championship side or a Wigan/Southampton could well be the making or breaking of him.

I could definitely see him at Bolton, they're mightily short of players at the moment. However, as others have said he's been on loan to two average championship sides before and barely made an impression.

The Fonz needs game time.  A season long loan at say Forrest would be perfect.
It would also mean we could get a striker in on loan from one of europe’s bigger clubs.

Yup, I'd be fine with that.

Someone like Forest, Bolton, Brighton - tell him that if he gets 15-20 goals on loan then he gets to start the following season up front for us.

I wouldn't have thought you can't really tell him that though. What if Bent hits 20-25, Gabby 12-18 and Weimann 10 for us?

I wouldn't mind too much if Fonz went on loan, but would depend who we got in as a replacement.

Regarding the Fonz, I've said it before but the Blose-Villa draw at the Sty in January 2011 under Houllier he came off the bench, collected the ball with his back to goal, turned brilliantly and struck an absolute thunderbolt which hit the bar and had Foster beaten all ends-up. If that had gone in you can't help but thinking if that had gone in, surely the winner at that stage, it would have really kickstarted his career. As it was we bought Bent the following week.

He had two starts I think that season, both in consecutive games (Gabby must have been injured) in Nov '10. Missed a couple of good chances at Fulham when we conceded a last minute equaliser and then scored one and had another disallowed in the last-gasp win over Blackpool the following midweek at VP.

It's fine margins. He's a very skilful lad with decent movement. The loan spell in the Championship didn't suit his game, he's probably best in behind a typical number nine. I think he still deserves a proper run of starts before being discarded.

Agree, eamonn.
I actally think that Fonz could be better than Gabby. I think he's technically better.
He just needs a break

If we want to push on, I think at need a gem like Berbatov or something abroad.
No doubt Berbatov is a good technical player but can be lazy and frustrating...for a similar transfer fee, I'd rather we continue to invest in you and go for Rhodes who we can develop over a number of years.

But we already have that. Right now, we need a striker to take the pressure off Bent and. Is capable of linking the midfield with the attack.
Well Berbatov certainly has the experience but I wouldnt say he'd take the pressure off Bent, however he may raise his game being first choice rather than 3rd or 4th, and theres not many players better at holding up the ball and linking play when hes on his game.

I agree with the point in bold.  Having seen us play yesterday I really think the way are playing would suit a link up player as opposed to an out and out target man.  Having seen him play in January, I think we need a Robbie Keane type of player, but feel RK's day has probably gone.  If we are going to continue with the passing game though, we do need someone who can get the ball to feet and create things, as well as chipping in with a few goals.  Keane did exactly that in January, but I don't think he is the answer on a permanent basis.

Maybe Holman could play the "Robbie Keane" role ?

Maybe letting them beat us was part of the deal??

Not sure there'd be much point loaning Fonz out for a year. This year is pretty much make or break. If he doesn't make it this season, he's pretty much got no chance next year. Either Lambert wants to keep him on as a useful option, or he'll sell him.

Again, don't want to jump to conclusions after seeing one pre season game, but I personally don't think Holman is going to be that type of player.  An honest grafter who works hard and gets in some good positions, but from what I saw yesterday he doesn't seem to have the quality on the ball of a Stephen Ireland or a Robbie Keane.  I would liken him more to a James Milner type of player.

Hopefully a bit more James Milner and a bit less Steve Stone.
