I'm not sure if Lambert is convinced by Delfouneso, he gave Holman the number 14 which the Fonz for the last couple of years.

Probably reading a bit much into that, I'm sure I've seen Holman wearing 14 on a lot of the videos of him (was 27 with AZ though) so he probably asked for the number and fonz agreed to let him take it.

And since Fonz was hardly setting the world alight whilst wearing 14, maybe he fancied a change anyway

Even if we suspend disbelief for a second and imagine that Milner decides that he wants to leave the title holders as they attempt to win the Champions League how on earth does anyone expect us to match his wages?

I don't think it'll happen either, if I was him I wouldn't want to leave. But they're in the market for players and if they add a couple of midfield players he may be available for a loan later in the window.

There will be no further midfield purchases or loans I reckon, and that's fine by me.

Villa have a pretty solid selection of creative attacking midfield players; Brett Holman, Stephen Ireland, and Charles N'Zogbia all figure to be regularly featured in the first team, and all three tend to be at their best in the more advanced portion of a two-band midfield. Marc Albrighton and Samir Carruthers provide some depth in that area, and though Barry Bannan seems his best as more a deep-lying creative type alongside a more traditional ball-winner like Karim El Ahmadi, he's certainly capable of playing higher up the pitch if need-be.

Add Jean Makoun to the mix and what we really need to be thinking about first and foremost is a left back.

I like this Douglas Teixeira cat. I think he'd plug in nicely at the Villa, however I'd hate to see Clark get a more limited roll because of it. We certainly need CB coverage though with Dunney out for an extended period.

As for the strikers I think Weimann and even Danny could hold down the fort while Gabby's unfit. Our midfield will be flying come the West Ham opener and goals will be coming from all sorts of players.

We have to sign him.  Our centre-halves would be Ron and Doug.  Immense.

Ron would walk.

True, and I suspect he'd not want to come back anyway, but then again, where else would he get what Man City pay him?

All this milner talk has missed one thing. Who said that Man City want to off-load him?

Nobody. I imagine he'll stay around for atleast another season or two yet.

But it's Man City. They've not spent yet, but they are capable of bringing in 3 top class players in a week and if they do add a midfielder or two it may get to the stage where he's available for a loan.

Who knows though.

The bigger clubs (winners of the big trophies) get rid of their dead wood at the start of transfer windows. They haven't mentioned anything about him so I'd expect someone who figured in just about every one of their games last season, and Englands, will be gearing up for a league and Champions league assault rather than worrying about whether he'll be next to Al-Ahmadi or Stephen Ireland next season.

Tottenham fans may have been saying the exact thing about Adebayor last season.

And now they're struggling to agree personal terms because of his wages...

Now they're trying to make it a permanent deal, yes.

a good player no doubt and a good idea to have a mixture of a few quality Bosmans with the youth coming through.

but then I remember we have a manager who doesnt want to play expansive attacking football but would rather

draw the season with a few attackingless one nil defeats against the big boys how depressing
Agree with your first paragraph, but, although I understand what you're saying in the next 2, do you not feel that it's some of the players who struggle to play "expansive football"?
I'm not defending AMcL, but, I do feel he's got to play with the hand he was dealt with, and, personally, I don't think some of them are good enough.
I've always said, you have to give him this season as a freebee, and judge him on the first 2 or 3 months next season when he's bought his own players in.

sorry Nigel better late than never ..... we will never know thank Macca

Did the Cresswell thing not happen? I think LB is our main priority!

There is absolutely no chance of Milner coming back.  There is however a possibility that Adam Johnson wants out.  If it were for the right kind of money I'd say he'd definitely be worth a pop.

If Johnson wants out, reckon there may be a cluster of clubs after him and is he what PL wants?

Don't think we're even going to be playing with out and out wingers so I don't think Johnson will be on our radar. That and the fact he would cost more than our other 4 signings combined.

Wasn't there a figure of £6m being bandied about?  Considering we have just signed a current Dutch international for half that amount, I would think it is a no go.  Agree we need a LB though.

Like I said earlier regarding Douglas, we're not going to spend a chunk of money on a defender; may be for a trophy striker, but not for a defneder. Is my opinion.

If we brought Douglas then Clark or Baker could play left back?
