Can't say I'm a fan of Scottish football but didn't the Scottish teams do quite well against the English teams when drawn in the past against them in Europe?

I'm sure Lambert knows enough about Hutton already to realise he's not good enough, even a lot of us on here knew that before he'd even signed for us.

I would have thought Lambert must have played against Hutton somewhere along the line.

And that translated means ? Vlaar is still coming ?
Of course! can't you read?! - Ron Vlaar maakt toch de overstap van Feyenoord naar Aston Villa. De verdediger bereikte vrijdagmiddag een akkoord met de Engelse club ...
... what could be plainer, Nigel?

Celtic, Rangers, Celtic, Rangers....

Edit: What I was implying from my rather vague post is that perhaps Old Firm rivalries run deep.

Yep, confirmed. He's a good player and had a 93.1% pass completion rate at the Euros (higher than Xavi). A three year deal is a good bit of business too.

Quote
Aston Villa have agreed personal terms with Dutch international defender Ron Vlaar and, subject to medical clearance, a deal will be concluded with Eredivisie runners-up Feyenoord next week.

The 27-year-old centre half will undergo a medical next week in Birmingham before a potential three-year deal can be formalised.

That leaves us with the need for three more signings

left back (cresswell?)
Defensive Midfielder
Forward

OUT
Warnock
Hutton
Makoun
G Gardner (loan)
Fonz/Weimann (loan)

Il keep Collins till January so that Vlaar can settle in. But most probably he is headed off to sunderland

Personally I think a left back alone will see us in good shape.  Beyond that I think we'll be looking to ship out the deadwood and replace with better position by position.
