Makoun won't play for us again.

I'd take Charlie Adam. I think he would link up well with Ireland.

Do we know that for definate?
Strange how players like him come along with high recomendation, we see little glimpses then they are gone - presumably off the face of the earth but with a huge amount of money in their back pocket - must be the equivilent of winning a football lottery - lots of money for doing very little

With Adam it's a trade off of ability on the ball for physicality/work ethic.  But for me he's overrated in terms of ability, so in this instance a trade off that just isn't worth it.  We could get a player with his ability for cheaper who would still put a shift in.

As an example;  he lacks pace, but is a big unit, younger than Adam and excellent on the ball - Tom Huddlestone.

We don't know anything at the moment, just a feeling I've got.

El Ahmadi
Holman - Adam
Ireland

With Herd to add steel if needed.

Looks OK to me.

Don't think Adam moves the ball quick enough for Rodgers, so he may be available.

I think there's more chance of Holman being further forward than Ireland.

You're all forgetting the midfield general Mr Warnock.

Good shout John. The only concern would be his injury record but he's a player I'd love to see play for us.

Adam... well I wouldn't mind but he's a very flawed player for all his passing and set piece ability. We have a few people already lining up for an attacking midfield place including some of our best youngsters. If we were to sign an attacking midfielder I'd rather they had something we dont already have. Ireland, if on form, is a similar and possibly better player than Adam. But I can understand if we are after Adam. He suits our supposed new Modus Operandi of pass and move.

I think another box to box or defensive midfielder is a bigger priority though. I'd ask Arsenal what their plans for Frimpong are.

Actually, I've just had a thought. Maybe the Liverpool player is Pacheco. Young Spanish attacking mid/forward. Lambert had him on loan at Norwich...?

Why buy Adam when we've got a younger, slightly more mobile version of him in Bannan? I know BB is 4ft1, and weighs about 3 kilos but Adam offers nothing in terms of physical presence either. He's good at set pieces and Hollywood passes. I think Barry, given the chance could be just as effective. Adam's also a player who runs out of steam after 60-70 minutes. Fitness has always been an issue with him.

Lambert isn't against playing a diminuitive player in the playmaker role either. Hoolahan is quite similar to Bannan too and he did very well for Norwich last season.

I don't rate Adam much at all. As someone else said, Huddlestone has more in his locker.

Maybe we could swap Joe Allen at Swansea for Bannan?

That would be good. I'd rather we bought Allen or Britton from Swansea than Charlie Adam.

Agreed, I really wouldn't want Adam, he's ok but Blackpool was about his level, where he could be the big fish and control everything.  I'd rather see Johnson, Gardner, Delph and Bannan fight it out for that spot than bring in a big earner who wouldn't be a massive upgrade.  The key one at the minute is Bannan who seems to have started really well under PL, signing a player who plays the same role as him could turn out to be a huge waste of money.

As things stand I'd be happy with a centre back, left back and possibly a winger who can play either side.

In most of the other positions where there are question marks we have at least 1 youngster who we should take a look at for a few months before signing a player to fill the spot (I'd put Baker, Clark, Fonz, Weimann, Lichaj, Herd and Albrighton in this group, along with the midfielders mentioned above), I'm not expecting all of them to make the grade but there have been glimpses from them in the last 2 years that they have quality but with all the uncertainty they've not been consistent, now the mood is better and we have a manager who will play to the strengths of our youngsters we need to see just how much of the squad can be filled from the academy.

We also need to see if Nzog and Gabby can find some form as both have talent and can offer something but probably have until christmas to prove it before we have to look at replacements.

Warnock, Hutton, Collins and Dunne are all better off sold (although I'd keep 1 of Collins or Dunne as cover for a year), as a unit they make too many mistakes and, importantly, most of the fans I've seen comment have lost faith in them, if that sentiment is true across the board (I believe it is for 3 of them, Dunne seems to have the benefit of the doubt with many) then simply the act of replacing them will be a huge positive around the club.

I'd b happy with a centre back, left back, right back, winger and a striker.

Sell some of the average players like Lichaj, Warnock, Delfouneso and Delph.

I'd rather cut my losses with N'Zogbia. I don't think his hearts in it here. Think he came here for the money. He's not working hard enough. His confidence is low too. It's a combination that's not good. You'd think players would be busting a gut and eager to impress under the new manager. Largely they seem to have done that in the two games, but seems by most accounts Charles has been poor. I don't think it's merely the lack of confidence, I do think it's down to attitude too. We can do without such a moody player. Need someone more reliable.

I'd love Pacheco, talented kid. Frimpong would be a top signing too. I'd want permanent deals though.
