The mirror reckon carroll has told close pals hes not interested in joining anyone other than newcastle, at least it showswe are prepared to spend big if needed though so maybe we will be after another striker.

Ah the usual close sources, until I hear it from his own mouth I'll take it with a pinch of salt

isn't Luke De Jong going to Germany?

That's what a Geordie mate of mine reckons

Didn't he officially sign for 'gladbach a couple of days ago? I thought I'd read it somewhere anyway.

I think the two clubs have agreed a price (€15mil) and they're just finalising the contract.

From what I can see it's the other way round, twente are stalling on argeeing the fee whislst they try to get him to change his mind, but he's agreed terms and passed a medical.  We can dismiss him as a possibility though, unfortunately.

i'm a big fan of Carroll.
i appreciate his stats can look poor for last season and you can make a good case for him being over valued,

but at the end of the day its what you see, and i see a big strong forward who can score goals and has no little ability with the ball at his feet, he's not the finished article, but i believe he can be a very dangerous striker and is still young enough to fulfill his potential and improve.
no matter who he ends up playing  for i think he will be a success in the long term

his private life is a concern though, but that is something every manager looking at buying him will have weigh in the balance

Andy Carroll or Luke De Jong...I know who is the better player, who would be better for the team and the one I would prefer wearing a Villa shirt next season...and he'd cost less and be on a lower salary.

Carroll would give us another dimension. But Carroll and bent up top seems  wry one dimensional and not exactly brimming with movement or quality on the ball.

I'd be very surprised if this haPpened. Although I'm not entirely sure how he'd fit Onw t Newcastle tbh. The best teams don't play 442 and Newcastle should be looking to make that transition

Also he'll only go back to the club that forced him to leave??

I thought he looked excellent at the Euros in fairness, held the ball up well and created total panic against Italy, should have started in front of Rooney.

Chris could be spot on though.
Crikey I must have been watching other games. Apart from a cracking goal he was nothing more than a bull running around pushing everyone over and conceding free kicks. It was embarrassing to watch. I don't think the Italians were panic stricken more glad that he was so easy to play. All if his flicks went nowhere and his touch was abysmal.

As I say if we have £20 million for one player(which I doubt in the extreme) I think it can be spent a lot better on someone else. A creative attacking midfielder would be one option.

I want a Luc Nilis / Peter Beardsley / Zola / Messi type rather than John Carew as we need someone who will score 15 goals and set up 20 goals for Bent :)

Can't see Carroll being the man. I wonder what would Darren Bent say if he could pick his strike partner.

I'd rather we didn't blow the 20 mil on one player.

Best news I have heard today is Hutton not travelling with the team to USA.

Yeah, I'd agree with that.  I thought he was OK at the world cup but  as much as Carroll could be effective in the right team in the premier league, I'd say us having Bent and Gabby means we have enough options in the striking department to not blow our whole transfer budget on him.

If they sold Bent we could probably afford it, but I can't think of many reasons why we might do that.

I think a wide player and a LB should be the priority.  I must say I wouldn't be overwhelmed by Snodgrass.  Potentially look at Zaha from Palace if the price was right.
