I share those concerns, Irish.

The answer is possible to have Clark as one of the CBs so he can then step into midfield when necessary to make up the numbers and prevent us from getting overrun.  As teams that could do that will only play with one striker, do we really need two CBs marking him?

Brett Holman, Karim El Ahmadi and now Ron Vlaar. Does anyone know who is doing our scouting in Holland? Because he seems to be doing a bloody good job.

Berbatov's goal record at Utd for the amount of time he's actually played is fantastic. The season before last he was their top scorer but got dropped, probably harshly in the tail end for Hernandez. Last season he didn't get much game time but always looked a threat when he did.

I'd happily take Berba as our marquee signing. It would be a gamble but I actually think his attitude at Utd has been spot on. He could have made a lot more fuss about things. People will say he's getting a shite load of money and doesn't have to play much to get that, but the guy, like any pro, wants to play every week. I don't see him like Michael Owen who's just as interested in his off field pursuits and doesn't mind being almost semi-retired. Berba wants to play football.

If he'll drop his wages, then why not. On his day he's exceptional. I think there are only a handful of players who have as good a first touch as him too. I think he gets wrongly accused of being lazy. It's his style, like Ibrahimivic. It's unruffled, composed, languid. If you have those guys running around, chasing the ball all the time, they'd be less effective at what they do. If we were to play to his strengths, we could get goals out of him. He'd also compliment Benty very well IMO.

I think if you put 2 strong central midfielders in you would be ok at home.

He ain't going to come though.

Arthur Numan certainly was scouting for us last season, not sure if he has any links any more with TSM gone.

In the Metro I just read it said that we are 'monitoring developments' re: Carroll, along with Milan and West Ham. No mention of talks.

Website could be more up to date of course.

It also mentions that Liverpool still owe us money regarding the Downing sale and that could become part of a deal involving Carroll .......

I'd be very surprised in Carroll ended up with us. If he'll go anywhere it will be back to Nuuuuuuucastle.
Great to Liverpool wasting so much money though. The money they paid for Carroll and Downing combined makes my belly jiggle with laughter.

I'd be surprised if we signed Carroll, also if we had £20 million available for one player I'd probably rather it was spent on someone else. It's not that I think Carroll's a bad player at all, it's just I think there's probably better for that sort of money.

Not worth a thread, but was Lambert suited up or in training gear on Saturday?

On the gallery from the game it looks like he's wearing a suit:

Hope he has binned the jumper and polo for match day.

Danny Graham was quite good last season for Swansea, I wonder if he'll move on this summer?
