Berbatov can be great or he can look like he can't be arsed. He looked uninterested playing for Utd at times, I think he'd be worse again if he came to Villa. He'll go to someone who's prepared to give him one last big payday. I just don't see him wanting to come here and I think we should avoid him anyway.

Would I be correct in assuming no deals will be made now until Villa return from America?

I reckon the Liverpool fans would argue that point  ;)

Is that confirmed or just your opinion?

I think its most likely he will go back to Newcastle although I'd be pleased if we got him.

To be honest, I'm just glad we're after a fairly high profile striker.

I think Newcastle are playing a waiting game to try and get him on loan if/when Liverpool can't sell him.  Should we go in with a concrete offer, then we'll either get him or it'll force the Geordies hand to go for an actual transfer.

Either way, I see this one dragging on for a while and being a late August deal - possibly even on deadline day.

Carroll clearly isn't in Rodgers' plans but he has stated that if he is to let him go it has to be a permanent transfer. The question is how much he would cost. I'm thinking that if it were up to the manager maybe not that much but I doubt the people running the club will want to swallow a massive loss so soon after buying him. As for Newcastle, a big money/high wage signing from another PL club doesn't exactly fit in with the profile of their recent value for money foreign buys.

Bent and Carroll would be some forward line. There'd be bags of goals. I just hope we'd have a strong enough midfield four to provide both cover for the defence and creativity for two forwards who won't exactly have the guile to create their own openings.

With central midfield players like Ireland, Bannan, Herd (El Ahmadi is still a bit of an unknown quantity), I'd have thought we suit a 4-5-1/4-3-3/4-4-1-1 type system and that 4-4-2 was the system we're least likely to shape up as.

That'd be my only question mark over Carroll.

Concrete Ron enters VP for his first match, he's donning a claret n blue, satin boxing gown, hood up, with this tune playing.  The 40k crowd is stunned into a silent WTF moment...
