You can't loan players the same window you bought them to another Premier League team, can you? Otherwise Marin might be worth a shout. Chelsea are completely overstocked in the forward areas now and are they going to have to shift some.

He is actually Dutch, in the sense that he was born and brought up there, albeit to Moroccan parents, but he's chosen to play for Morocco at international level.

Wherever Berbatov goes now it will be the start of the wind down of his career and he'll be doing it to milk as much money out of the game as he can until he retires.  One very much best avoided!

That is what confuses me about the reported work permit situation. If he is Dutch he should not need one as far as I am aware.

I couldn't disagree more John. Berbatov is absolute class and could be to this Villa team what Luc Nillis could have been to the team 12 years ago.
If there were any chance we should jump at it, but he'll most likely get better offers.

Haven't seen too many rumours about a LB being signed.  I'm a little surprised as it is one area we definitely need strengthening in.

As for the forward situation, I would be very pleased if we managed to get Carroll either on loan or on a permanent basis.  I disagree with some of the comments saying that the presence of Carroll would mean hoofball, as he is pretty decent with the ball at his feet as well.  I think he would be the perfect foil for Bent and would also bring the best out of Gabby if he was partnered with him.  If he is going to leave Liverpool though, I can see Carroll only really wanting to go back to Newcastle and the last thing we need is another expensive player with little interest in playing for the club.  The other striker I would like to see us sign is Sturridge, as he is quality and can play in a few different roles.

I do think he's a very talented footballer, but I think he'll lack any real hunger and be interested in the money only.

I tend to agree with you, John.

Berbatov is a cracking player, but you have to wonder what will the motivation be like for a 31 year old, leaving Man United and all they offer, for his last contract.

I guess Lambert, if he were interested, would have to assess that.
