Watched a fair bit of Snodgrass and I like the look of him, 13 league goals last season plus 14 assists, can play either wing or as a second forward, I think he would be a good addition, any thoughts?

He might be Premier league standard, no one knows yet?

Going back to Collins and Dunne, I do think one should stay.

If we want Clark to start at CB, then signing two would mean that wouldn't happen, unless one of those we signed was seen as a reserve CB.  If we get an 'up and coming' player for that then fair enough, but then that would leave us with 3 young CBs on top of (probably/hopefully) Ron Vlaar.  So presuming we want an experienced player in reserve along with Baker, would we get one better than Dunne/Collins?

In my opinion we wouldn't, so it makes more sense to keep one as experienced cover.

I'd agree with that John.  If Vlaar (or any other CB for that matter) signs and is partnered with Clark, I would keep either Collins or Dunne as experienced cover.  Their contracts run out at the end of next season by which time we will have a clearer idea of what we really need.  If the new CB and Clark form a good partnership we might only need to bring some extra cover in.  If they don't do that well, we are going to need to bring in a more established player to potentially start for us.  It will be interesting to see if Lambert views CB as Lowton's position going forward.

I agree too.

Collins-Dunney have been living off the success of 09/10 for far too long now so I applaud Lambert for breaking up that combination.

I imagine Dunne will probably remain as he'll be harder to shift (in more ways than one) than Collins as I think we could easily sell him to any bottom half prem team.

Happy enough with Vlaar coming in. Him, Clark, Dunne and Baker with Lowton and Herd able to play centre half if we have a massive injury crisis. Just need another left back in and that's the defence sorted for this season I think.

The only thing with keeping Dunne over Collins, is that he's 4 years older and will need replacing in a year or so anyway, with not that much difference in ability between the two. Plus Dunne's likely on much higher wages.

Dunne is out of contract next season so just let him go in the summer.

Vlaar sounds like his replacement anyway so hopefully Clark will get a good run at CB sometime this season.

My mate is a Leeds fan he reckons he is coming to us, I don't know how true that is though.

I'm not sure about him he seems a decent player but he lacks pace.

I'm not too keen on the move, I can't see him being anything on Albrighton.

Just been on the Express and Star website and seen a page on Lambert being interested in Andy Carrol and another player from Ajax. Anybody got anymore info on this?

So did Sir Peter Withe.

Can't see a ref to an Ajax player here. Aldo would be very surprised if we got Carroll. But wouldn't at all be surprised to see us getting a target man in. I can only really think of lukaku on loan, Rhodes or - no thanks - kenwyne jones

The thing is, you can spin facts like that to suit pretty much argument.

We could go and sign Michael Johnson from Man City, and someone would say "yeah, but Paul McGrath was a problem drinker, too" and use that as some sort of rational explanation of signing an alcoholic player.

It doesn't change the fact that 99 times out of 100, a signing like that will not work out.

Not particularly referring to Snodgrass here, btw (I know next to nothing about him), just the logic in the argument that because something worked once, it's a factor to bear in mind in future.
