Well, most of the Feyenoord fans seem to be sorry he's leaving and rate him quite highly. Plus he's their captain and a natural leader which is something we particularly need I think.
Let's face it, if the fee is anything like reported we're getting a very good deal and if he was one of the best defenders around we'd be struggling to get him.

I suppose we have to hope that Lambert has seen how he will fit in and get more out of him than van Marwijk got out of... well, any of his players at Euro 2012.
I like what I've seen though. Physically imposing, good on the ball, experienced, good in the air, a leader, motivated and a motivator. He also weighs in with some goals. Some spectacular ones on occasion too.
For circa £3m? Go on then.

Like Curcic and Milosevic?

Neither of them we're good enough for the EPL. Curcic was average at best and Milosevic was brought on the back of 2 good seasons in the Yugoslav league which isn't dissimilar to SPL where a couple clubs are well above the standard their rivals are and can make players look better than they are.

Curcic was absolute quality, the only problem was he was bat shit mental and wasn't too interested in playing football.  Savo was a top quality striker too, just didn't work out for him at Villa.

Ron Vlaar will be soon signed a multiyear commitment to Aston Villa set. Concrete Ron would love to go to the club that plays in the Premier League and The Villans are also willing to transfer limited in the contract of Vlaar to pay. Villa pay about 4 million for the captain of Feyenoord, know Voetbal International. The Rotterdam club to that amount, however, 25% transfer to the shareholders who had previously invested in the so-called Polish Talent.
The departure of Vlaar from Rotterdam has speeded. The central defender was already open for a foreign adventure in one of the major European football comp tions, but clubs had not yet specifically reported to his agent Arnold Oosterveer. Sunday there appeared suddenly a picture of Vlaar in the Villa Park stadium and the deal will probably be completed this week.

FR12 is a Feyenoord news site. Not sure how reliable they are, or how concrete their information is.

Scott Parker is a good example of a player outside that top bracket of true world class players, but still can be a vital player to a PL side.  He had a moor tournament ...
One of the few in the English squad with Spanish connections, then?

Regarding Caroll, I saw that Newcastle have had a loan bid rejected so It would appear that any deal must involve money

I think with Newcastle in particular, it would stick in Liverpool's craw if they send him back there on the cheap after giving them so much money for him.
Maybe they still owe Newcastle a wedge and will write it off or, on our behalf, maybe they still owe us some of the Downing money we could write off?

There's no doubt in my mind Liverpool would rather sell and give Rodgers the cash to spend but getting an acceptable offer vice what they paid will be very difficult. They'd have to choke on at least more than half what they paid.

Got to laugh , Carroll and Downing for £55 million . ha ha ha

Don't forget the money they splashed out for Henderson as well.

Add Suarez, Adam and Enrique and you have £115m of spending under KKK and the only one they could even consider getting a profit on is Enrique (Suarez has played ok but he's clearly damaged goods, I can't see anyone taking him on for the 22m-ish they paid).  If they sold the lot they'd be lucky to get half of that back.

what, Liverpool would be lucky to get 11mil for Suarez... seriously? Suarez is a superb player, one of the best strikers in the Prem.

Half of their total outlay for the players mentioned if they sold them all.

My impression is that Lambert does a pretty thorough job on potential singings - that is, after all, how to get good value signings on a limited budget. The time he had at Norwich supports this, and he does come across as a thinking man's manager rather than one that buys on reputation or on the say-so of someone else.

I'd be happy for him to sign a 27 year-old Dutch-international defender; the last time we did so (Bouma) I think we got reasonable value.

It's also noticable that with El Ahmadi and Vlaar the fees are quite a bit lower than their 'true' value due to length of contract remaining and a buy out clause respectively.  This says to me his research and scouting is not just done on the player ability/attitude wise, but also their contractural situation, which is where the value for money comes in.

ah, that makes a lot more sense.  I still think they would get more than half.

Suarez would be over 30mil and Carroll over 20mil.  They could expect over 10mil each for Henderson, Enrique and maybe even Downing.

That said, a player is only worth what another team will pay for him.

Who'd have thought that there is a world out there where you can buy value for money footballers... truly revolutionary.

Jumping in on Paul_e's argument i'm not convinced they'd get that much. Partly because who is going to spend that kind of money of those players?
Of the clubs that can afford £10-25million for one player which ones are going to spend it on Carroll, Henderson or Downing?

Enrique would raise a fair bit, Suarez they'd probably get around £20-25mill from someone in Spain or Italy. And i'm sure someone would stump up 5 or 6 mill on Adam.

Lot of their fans seem to be saying we will get him for less than they think he is worth, they look to value him a few more than the 3 - 4 million they are saying he will be sold for and they are talking in euro's, so it will be the lower end of them figures once converted to pounds - they keep saying something about " limited transfer fee" which I assume is a buy out clause as they are blaming management for a bad contract.

I like the thought of signing a centre half known as 'Concrete Ron', I really hope he doesn't wear white boots or an Alice Band.
