Must admit I don't know much about him, one potential cause for concern for me is his injury record. At 27 he's missed the best part of 3 years through injury.

Laursen esq?

The news has been somewhat confirmed on Twitter by Bert Van Merwijk the former Dutch coach

How so?

Can I get a pronunciation check?

It's Vlaar as in Villa right. cool.
As in the song with only one word in it.

Sorry, the word somewhat is misleading. He has tweeted that Vlaar is in talk with us.

Vlaar on Youtube:

Wow. A centre back that can score from his own half.
Eat your heart out Chris Nicholl.

Sounds promising.

Wow they sure take this sort of thing seriously, just thought I'd take a gander at Vlaar's Fifa stats.  How long must it take to generate all of these stats?

That picture of him with the phone looks pretty damn convincing to me. Can't say I know much about the guy. Always good to be linked with a Dutch international. Though I'm a bit disconcerted that he's only played four internationals by the age of 27. Holland's defence was awful in the euros whether he was playing or not. Having said that, I rate heitinga and mathijsen normally.

The ever trusty FIFA stats suggest he's 6"2' but very slow. Would be nice to think we could get a dominant right footed centre back to complement Clark.

I think he suffered a cruciate injury at some point in his career which (I'm guessing) might account for a long lay off/few international caps.

From quick google he seems to of missed a couple seasons through a series of injuries, with couple to cruciate ligament and a different ligament injury but seems to of not had any reoccurance for couple seasons.

If he does sign, that'll be four players in, and none of whom seemed to involve any real ITK rumours in advance, the three who've signed broke a couple of days before signng. I didn't spot any rumours about vlaar before these by chance photos

So I'm taking the whittingham, snodgrass, and other rumours with a pinch of salt until kendrick or nursey comes up with a story or someone takes a photo!

I'd say it's very promising if we're raiding Holland for players. There will be a lot of a affordable and talented footballers there.

He kind of reminds me of Pique. Great positioning and not especially fast but knows how to cover ground. He's strong and seems to have a bit of a mean streak.

This Vlaar news sounds very promising and shows that we now have a very knowledgeable and dynamic management team.

Get Luke de Jong in too would be great.

I don't know where all of this Luuk de Jong talk came from. He clearly stated that the only club he would leave Twente for is Monchengladbach, and BMG stated they were confident in signing him this morning.

I don't see, in any case, de Jong becoming a Villa player.
