The Croatian forward Mal something or other was a big awkward puts himself about forward who knew where the net was think hes playing in Russia ????

If you mean the guy that scored for them then it's Mario Mandzukic, whose already joined Bayern this summer.

Danny Simpson interesting Lambert according to the People.

On another note, what's peoples view on Jermain Defoe who looks to be on his way out of Spurs, although they are currently seeking £10m but that price will probably drop.

Mandzukic. Been playing in Germany and just signed for Bayern.

Aye.
I would have thought work permit issue shoud not stop him  flying from where ever he is to US and play in a friendly tournament?
They do - without a valid work permit you can't 'work' for the club. In the same way that if we wanted to sign a Cameroonian kit-man, he couldn't go and 'work' for the club on a US tour.

Sort of. It only applies to those actually coming to the UK to work and not the US - as the questions asks. Where you're right is that he would be paid and paying taxes in the UK regardless of where we are in the world. With that in mind, we are still paying his wages I'd have thought so the Work Permit issue shouldn't be one in the long run.

The most selfish footballer I have ever seen, and it prevents him from being better than he is. Let him have the ball, but get in blocking position. Don't worry about the 5 unmarked men, as he will shoot at your legs before passing. Will score goals, but even less rounded than Bent, and small.

Would have thought that, if Bent is going to be our main man (in our position we would be doing well to get anyone better), we need somebody up front who plays a similar style rather than a contrasting style.

Bent's main attributes are playing off the last defender and being able to find space in the penalty area.  For us to use the first of these attributes, the midfield will have to look for the quick through ball, either short or long.  The problem with this is that the better defenders can counter this by good positional sense.  However, if you have another player that can play in the same way, you have a very dangerous dual threat that not many teams can counter, even the best.  To play off the last defender, you do not have to be quick, just a quick thinker with good positional sense.

In recent years, teams that have relied on a big and strong forward have generally had weaker midfields and had to rely on the long ball more for the forward to either hold it up and bring others into play or play more direct.

Villa have had a comparatively weak midfield for years.  Whether we became a counter attacking team because of it or we wanted to play a game with width resulting in this, I am not sure.  Going forward, it is essential that we improve this area of the team with better quality.

The Carroll link is interesting. Prior to joining Liverpool he was becoming a very promising player at Newcastle and proving that with the right service he could score in a number of different ways. Some of his goals were quite outstanding and as a club we've always had an appreciation for centre forwards. He needs a change in venue, but I'd only want him if a future fee is agreed that isn't ludicrous. He's young and will get better with the right management. Management and leadership that influences him positively on and off the pitch.

I think Bent and Carroll would be an awesome combination, with Gabby/Weimann to come on against tired legs near the end if need be.

You reckon he could be after Carroll as a signing not just a loan Karl?

I think so, the money was there for De Jong so If Carroll was up for it I reckon it'd be a goer.

Appreciate your opinions so far. Your hatred of the kits, the Carroll link are all so positive and inspiring. Maybe you've missed the bit where for the former Scottish manager has been fired and there's a new bloke in town bringing with him new optimism and a fresh outlook. You may want to turn your calendar forward and stop being so bloody miserable about everything.

Oh, and being linked with Andy Carroll isn't a pipe dream. Being linked to Messi is. Why do some people always feel the need to put us down like we are some small time outfit playing league 2?

The manager doesn't seem to think so.

Never been a fan of Defoe.

I think Caroll is ready to take the league by storm if he gets a move to the right team. Liverpool are not a good fit for him.
