I know everyone always rolls their eyes at the ITK stuff so I wasn't going to bother posting this but I was told a while ago that PL's number one target was Luuk De Jong. Talks didn't get very far as he is after a move to Germany & Champions League football. Before the Carroll thing became news I mentioned we were in talks with Chelsea about getting two of their players one of which was Lukaku on loan, it since came out that the other was Bertrand. He wants a big man upfront and he has money to spend on one.

You reckon he could be after Carroll as a signing not just a loan Karl?

I haven't got any itk but I guarantee that he's looking for a big man.

Norwich played off a big man all season, not by pumping long balls up the pitch but by getting it wide and hitting the box early.  Carroll would be great for the role, as would de jong.  The problem is after those 2 it's pretty difficult to see who can do that job and be a sufficient goal threat (even Carroll's record isn't glowing).

I can't think of anyone I've seen last year that would come to us and who can do the role PL wants and score goals, outside the 2 mentioned.  We could take a risk on an unproven prospect but it would be a big gamble.  In the prem theree's no one playing a big man who scored regularly, other than Holt at Norwich, conveniently, and the only player like that with any record in spain in llorente but he's going nowhere.

Does anyone with more knowledge of european football know of any options to fill that Holt style 'target man who scores and creates goals' role?

I heard something about us trying to get Makoun a work permit so we can bring him back into the squad or something similar? Does anyone know anything about this?

Think quality target men like Dublin, Vieri, Drogba, Alan Shearer, Les Ferdinand,  Caroll, and co is dying breed in football. We should be looking for next Cristano Ronaldo type striker, skilful, quick, strong, strong in the air, dangerous, fantastic free kick, awesome goalscoring record.

I also think we should look for the next messi, iniesta and maldini. I don't know why nobody's been doing this already.

I like that chap Everton picked up in January last season. He's strong, quick and finishes well. He looks perfect for English football.

Jelavic? I agree, kind of like Bent but a bit more well rounded.

Aye.
I would have thought work permit issue shoud not stop him  flying from where ever he is to US and play in a friendly tournament?

I'd be happy with Caroll if we didn't hit long balls at him

Mandzukic. Been playing in Germany and just signed for Bayern.

Aye.

They do - without a valid work permit you can't 'work' for the club. In the same way that if we wanted to sign a Cameroonian kit-man, he couldn't go and 'work' for the club on a US tour.
